HELP with bloating/gas

I'm new to this page and need help with a delicate physical matter.  I had surgery three weeks ago.  I'm still on Bariatric Advantage shakes and water--only.  I seem to be getting this incredibly bloated/trapped gas pain towards the evening---and it lasts through the night and into the next morning.  I don't use straws, I don't drink from bottles, and I drink slowly--four to six ounces an hour.  ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR THE RELIEF of this AND the PREVENTION would be very helpful.  Many thanks.

Well I just welcomed you on another post but let me welcome you on your post! Welcome! Walk, Walk,Walk it really helps to pass the gas. You might also try Sax. It helps too. For the bad news gas is going to be a close companion now. I am surprised they have not put you on mushy food yet. That will help some.

Try some Gas X strips;  and yes, walkwalkwalk.

It'll go away eventually.  Try to limit your intake of sugar alcohols;  these sweetners that end with "ol" such as sorbitol, malitol, etc.  The artificial sweetners really seem to do a number on our innards.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for the advice:  and yes, you're right, walking has helped tremendously  as well as water water water!  I did try Gas X chewables---and as a back up.  So far I'm moving and feeling better.    I will watch the 'ol's   those have NEVER agreed with me--even prior to surgery.

As to the reason I'm still on shakes--I had some complications during surgery and the doc wants to go a bit slower  with me.   When I went in on April 5, I was getting the lap band removed, a hiatal hernia corrected and RNY.  There are risks with getting RNY after having the lap band--and one of them is scar tissue around the esophagus.  When they tubed me for the anesthesia, they may have perforated some scar tissue.  In short, when I started taking in liquids, I was getting knifing pain.  I was leaking.  And a swallow test confirmed this. I was rushed into another surgery (this is two days after the original surgery) to close up the perforation and clean up the mess of the leakage.  The trauma of second surgery caused me to retain fluid EVERYWHERE, including my lungs.  I stayed in the hospital a week longer than originally estimated, and now at home, I'm sort of simultaneously learning this new digestive tract and trying to get rid of all this fluid (which is almost entirely gone).

I thank you so much for your responses.  And by the way, you all are GORGEOUS!  Wow.  Best, Kathy
