Is anyone going through Kaiser in South San Francisco?
Hey, Everyone! I attended my Orientation for Bariatric Surgery at the Kaiser in South San Francisco on 05/11/10 and I have my next two classes on Monday, 05/24/10. I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this program and what they thought about the whole thing.
I have started the changes in my eating habits and, although I have had a few hiccups along the way, it's getting easier. I have lost 9 pounds in the last 10 days. I think I will have to call that a success. =]
I do have one issue that I am concerned will get in the way of my surgery, and that is that I am anemic. I am taking iron suppliments along with the other doctor recommended vitamins, but due to some girly issues, I am not sure I am making much headway with my iron stores. *sigh*
Anyway, if anyone else has gone through this program I would really love to hear your thoughts/experiences/reviews.
I wish all of you the best of luck and hope to hear from you soon!!

hey petaluma! santa rosa here. i had my surgery in richmond but know folks who went through the south san fran kaiser. lots of good doctors, sketchy support staff and sketchy post surgery support.
that is a great loss-keep it up. there are several types of iron suppliments; ferrous sulfate, ferrous gluconate, ferrous fumarate-perhaps try different forms to see if one will absorb better than others.
keep up the good work!

I went through Kaiser, but in Bakersfield Ca, I had a hysterectomy a little over a year ago (before my rny), I was VERY anemic because of my female problems that caused severe bleeding, they were giving me transfusions of iron a couple times a month for a while, then I was put on a prescription iron, I was able to bring those iron levels up to the low end of the normal range. What does your gyno have to say about the blood loss? There are things they can do to help reduce, slow down or stop the heaviness of the flow, most of all make sure they find the cause of the bleeding being so heavy, they told me for 2 years that my last pap was normal so I was fine, they said maybe I was starting menapause (at 37) they said it was hormones, and even said it was caused because of my weight. I finally saw a nurse practicioner who did some further tests and before I knew it I had a hysterectomy, I was so excited to never have old aunt Flow ever visit again! Anyway, make sure they figure out the actual cause, and do something to get that under control so you can build your iron stores back up so it won't be an issue for you post op.
Sorry, Richmond here as well.
Just an FYI they all have different perspectives.
When I had my surgery, Richmond said no protein shakes, South San Francisco was good with them.
Treatment was good, and I liked my doctor, but I found it strange that one company had different plans from hospital to hospital, which tells me that they can't decide which way is the best way to go even amongst themselves.

Hi,
my name is stephanie i am 36 married, live in santa rosa and im also going through kaiser ssf. i had orientation 1 week after you did, as well as my next 2 classes 1 week after you did. i lost 11 pounds in the first 3 weeks of being on the pre-op diet plan. i have also have my psych eval and my phone appointment with the RN. I have also had all blood work, EKG and chest x-ray, as well as a sleep apnea test. my next 2 appointments are on the 25th (a phone appointment with a registered dietician). and then i have my consult with the surgeon on the 28th with dr. alami. i have been found to have severe sleep apnea, they want me to be stable on cpap for 6 weeks, which is fine by me, bacuase it gives me another 6 weeks to lose the rest of the weight. Im looking to have the RNY procedure. Anyway i'm looking for a local "penpal" to keep in touch with during this process. If you want to text me that would be great, send me a message and i will give you my cell phone number. Have a great day
