slightly High Heart Rate question
Hi everyone, I have a question.
My primary care doc says my heart rate/pulse is a bit high. 97 ranging to 105. She said she might not clear me for surgery with my heartrate this high. Did anyone else have this trouble? My surgeon said my heartrate is okay for surgery, but my PRIMARY Doc must approve my surgery also. Frustrations.....

Ask your primary doctor for a referral to a cardiologist. The cardio doc may determine it's not an issue, and hopefully your primary will give the OK based on a 2nd opinion. My PCP approved my surgery, but my surgeon had me visit the cardiologist twice in the preop process. I had a successful surgery, but noted dizzy spells that began around 7 months post op. Went back to PCP and began several tests. Final referral to a cardio doc found the problem. I had periods of high and low bp, and I needed to go back on bp meds AND get a pacemaker implanted. Implant was about 21 months post op, and no more dizzy issues since the surgery. I had a cardio consult on a Thursday, and the pacemaker was implanted the following Tuesday. DAVE

Although it is a little high...it's not bad. Normal heart rate for an adult is 70-100 so you're in the upper range of normal. My questions are these...have you always had a heart rate this fast? If not, how long has it been this way? And second...what's your blood pressure like? Do you frequently feel out of breath?

Mine is usually around 90 when I go to the doctors. Last time it was 100 and she said maybe I need to go on beta blockers. I said no way cuz I tried that for heart palpitations from mitral valve prolapse and felt like a zomby. She just said keep an eye on it and if its that high most the time let her know. But there are plenty of times I take it at home and its in the 80's and even high 70's sometimes so I try not to worry about it. I figure the more weight I lose and better shape I get in the lower my resting heart rate will be. We shall see. Good luck to you.
p.s...did they take into account nerves? Sometimes its a tad elevated just from being at the doctors!
