Hi guys. Fairly recent transplant from Texas to San Jose and wanted to know of a doctor around the area to go to for my checkups. Also wanted to know if anyone has had a revision or ROSE done from a doc in the area. If so how did it go.

Thanks in advance!

You might like to check at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose;  I have several friends who've had wls there, and maybe there would be a registry available.

Good luck, and welcome to CA!

Good Sam has a good bariatric program and great support group meetings.  That is where I go for my meetings.

Also, Stanford has a bariatric program as well which is very good too.

Either way, welcome to San Jose!!

Thanks for the info Nursy.  How does one begin the process of finding a bariatric doctor?  Do you have to have a PCP first before going to one and can you tell me when the support group meetings are or where I can find them on the web.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jody~

I went to Stanford and needed a PCP referral to get there.  I would imagine that you would need that for Good Sam as well.

The support group meetings are the 2nd and 4th Thursday nights. The next meeting is July 22nd in the trailers in the back.   Check the Good Sam website under bariatric program.  The information should be there.

PM me if you have any other questions.  I am happy to help you out!

It depends on your insurance. Mine lets me see specialists without going through my PCP first. I'd call up bariatric surgeons in your area and see who takes patients they didn't do surgery on and then see if they have any recommendations for a PCP who is WLS friendly.

I'd send you to my PCP but she's not taking new patients. But she is with Palo Alto Medical Foundation and pretty much all their doctors are great. They have some bariatric programs as well so the PCPs tend to be on board with WLS. Also, in spite of the name, they are all over the Bay Area, not just in Palo Alto.
