Anthem? No longer approving?

I have heard that Anthem Blue Cross/Shield of CT is no longer covering Lapband surgery as of 2005. Anyone else hear this? Or is this rumor? I ask because they still cover RNY surgery - so what's the deal?

Amy, What type of Anthem do you have? I have Century Preferred and they only covered the gastric bypas RNY. They would not cover the lap band when I inquired back in 2004. You should check with your carrier or your employer what is in your contract Hope this was helpful. Hugs KimC

It depends on the rider that the company you work for has with Anthem. Each company is different. Find out for yourself..its not a blanket thing. Joanie

Amy, I also heard that Anthem does not cover the lapband surgery. I don't think it's just a rumor.

Amy, Athem never did approve Lap Band cause they still think it's experimental. Also it is said that it harder now to get approved for Open RNY. Contact your insurance Co. and they will tell if they are covering any of it anymore. Cindy
