3 weeks out
Hi Dena
Congratulations!!! 27 pounds is great for being three weeks out. I would call your Dr about your blood sugars. It took awhile for mine to come down and stay in normal range but I have had no diabetic meds since surgery. I was on Glucophage as well as insulin prior to surgery. Hope everything works out fine for you.

My endocrinologist explained it this way...right after surgery...burning all of the fat and the increased protein puts a strain on the liver which then causes more sugars to be produced in the short term...as the liver tries to compensate for the percieved "damage', of course we don't produce enough insulin to begin with...hence the fluctuation....it does usually level off. the tiredness is norml too....I have had spells of it off and on since surgery..I just REST. Most folks..not ALL...Will be able to come off diabetic meds and will start pulling normal sugars in short order. That happened to me and I hope it happens for you as well. Work closely with your Doc as meds need to be monitored closely through this phase. on the otherhand..we also have to watch for LOW blood sugars..which can also pack a wallop....
