Anyone over 50 pre or post op ?
Hi everyone,
I am at the end of the journey, almost there. The only thing that I need is the phych eval which is at the end of the month, I am so excited but at the same time anxious for what is going to take place in the next month or so.
I am 56 years old and have struggled with my weight for the past 20 years. I believe that this will help me get on the right path to a new and healthier life. I am looking for someone that has gone through the surgery is it at my point of the journey. Is there anyone out there?
This is a great sight and I am so blessed to have each and everyone of you to help me along on this amazing journey. Feel free to email me at [email protected]
Thanks again,
Betty
Betty,
I'm two years older than you and will be three weeks post-op on 4/10.I was 381lbs six months ago. I had diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, and horrible arthritis pain in my knees and ankles and it sure wasn't getting any better as I got older. Today, 6 months I'm 331 lbs, off all the diabetes meds, have a "walking around bp of @ 125/65 and hope to be hanging up my CPAP machine in the next few months. My knee pain lessens by the day. May still need knee replacement surgery but my orthopedic surgeon hopes we can delay it by ten years. I have to consider all these things as nothing short of miraculous. Yet its a story repeated here in thread after thread.
Even at this early stage, I can tell you it, for me at least, the surgery, the recovery, the liquid diet, etc. etc., wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined. I'm back to my full daily schedule and this morning, I celebrated my "graduation" to the pureed diet with my first breakfast of ONE scrambled egg.........only managed @ 2/3 of it. GREAT!
Don't sweat the psych evaluation. As long as you demonstrate a clear understanding of the risks and consequences of the surgery and a sincere commitment to going forward, you'll do fine. Listen to the stories of so many written here that have been down this road and believe with certainty that your life after will be so much better than your life before.
Best of luck,
Paul B.
I am 51...and so far so good...not losing as fast as I would like...but have had no complications and I feel great. I am off all diabetic meds...BP is normal..and I walk everyday..have energy and have dropped 6 sizes and no longer have to shop in the Queen sized sections of stores...I had Lap RNY at Hartford Hospital in January with Dr. Darren Tishler.
I look good, years younger so I am told...and have renewed self confidence and self esteem...so now I have my health, inner peace...looks and energy...I got a great deal! I have a whole new outlook on life...totally rejuvenated! The good news is that I am not done yet!
I am not on here much anymore...out in the 3D world....livng real life!
Praise the Lord!
