Throwing up
Hi Everyone,
I'm going into my 3rd week post op...& all last week I've been struggling with the "queasie stomach" in the morning along with a very watery mouth, however I didn't throw up. My drinks & 1 oz soft foods stayed down fine.
Today however is a totally different story. I had my protein drink early am & this was fine, but I tried a little later in the morning to eat 1 oz of soft foods & it felt like I had a BRICK in the middle of my breast bone...about 15 minutes later I was in the bathroom throwing up.
I waited about 1/2 hour & took a few sips of water & that came up, with the same symptoms the Brick feeling, watery mouth. I took a nap as it just wiped me out & woke up around 2ish.
I just tried 1 oz of blueberry yogurt (light no fruit) and the brick feeling was immediate along with the queasies...however I kind of "willed myself" not to throw up...it's staying down for now. I'm afraid to drink as I know what's going to happen.
I left a message at Dr. B's office with Felix EARLY this am..& Dr. B is suppose to call me back, however I'm afraid of becoming dehighdrated in the process...I'm really hoping this is just an off day..
I've been job searching & today I have to leave to take a test for the town of Manchester...I'm so afraid I'm going to get sick while I'm there...UGH>>>>>
Has anyone else had this happen? Is it just an off day with my new tummy? I'm thinking the worse that scar tissue is forming around my pouch hole...As you can imagine I'm a little freaked right now as so far I've been doing great.
Thanks everyone,
Mickey

Oh boy, you bring back memories (of not so long ago). I had some days where I couldn't keep a thing down, not even water, during the first month or two. Sometimes the food I ate one day would make me sick the next. There was no rhyme or reason to it.
When I was three months out, I was sick two days in a row, and found out shortly thereafter that I had an ulcer. Lots of folks develop ulcers at the junction of the pouch and intestine, so you definitely need to explore it further.
Did Dr. Barba give you Prevacid? This helps a great deal especially during the first month or two post-op. The generic is called lansoprazole, and is a PPI similar to Prilosec, Nexium, and the like. In a pinch, you could probably use Prilosec which is available OTC. You should always check with your physician of course. And don't be afraid to "shake the tree" by calling upstairs...be a squeaky wheel.

Mickey,
I had the same thing happen when I was a few weeks out, and then again after I had to have the JP drain excess removed.
My trick, as silly as it was, was to rub my belly while I swallowed and concentrate on relaxing. It was terribly difficult to do, but I got through it and will say a prayer that you will as well.
The other thing I would do is take the barest of sips and walk while doing it.
As for Dr. B, I am sure he will get back to you as soon as possible, and if necessary call the on call bariatric person at St. Francis. The entire office, Felix and Jess included, has been a godsend and I don't think I would have gotten through this without their support.
Let me know if there is anything I can do, and good luck with your test!
