Anyone read "The Weight of It"?
I picked this book up tonight because it sounded so intriguing. It's non-fiction. Has anyone read the book? Here's a bit of commentary I found about it:
>>>With wisdom, humor and surprising candor, Amy Wilensky shares the story of two sisters (one year apart) from earliest memory into adulthood. The relationship's bonds and boundaries take on increasing complexity as Wilensky charts her older sister Alison's journey from morbid obesity to thinness (dropping 189 pounds in 3 years) following gastric bypass surgery in her late 20s.
After providing extensive details about gastric bypass and its aftermath, the bottom line, according to the author, is that "a fat person is not a statistic . . . a fat person is somebody's little sister."
Bette:
Thanks for the book review. It sounds interesting. I am going to send my hubby to the library to see if they have it so I can read it while I recover from surgery. I am checking into Yale on 8/23 for a liver resection so please say a little prayer for me. I will let you know what I think of the book once I am done. I have 2 thin sisters and I was the only one in the family with a weight issue so I am interested in what this book has to say. It really does effect the family dinamics. I hope all is well with you.
Take Care,
Chryssie
