Hi Dawn, Bring lip balm to the hospital. I found this to be the most important thing of all! Consider a recliner for the first week or so after surgery, makes sleeping so much more comfortable. Start walking right now before surgery and do it every day! Start walking as soon as you get home! Even if it's just a little bit outside. I went for a short walk every two hours and it really shortened my recovery and I have been exercising ever since. ( Start your new lifestyle immediatley for long term success) Best of luck to you! I'm a big advocate for bringing your own toothbrush to the hospital. You're gonna feel yucky (from lack of showering) & at least your mouth won't. Stacey

Bring a journal to the hospital and have your family help you write down was is happening when. Especially the first two days, which were a big blur to me. I was able to look back and see what transpired when during my hospital stay. Also, write down all visitors who come and see you and what they brought. Again - big blur!! Phyllis

Here's my big advice- LOL. EMBRACE THE MONOTONY OF EARLY POSTOP LIFE! Use this time of limited variety and quantity of intake to break your cycle of bad habits and completely change your relationship with food! No: "When can I eat...?" "Couldn't I just have a bite of...?" etc,. From now on, you eat to live, not live to eat! Lisa C

Hi Dawn, My best friend during my hospital stay was my headset radio. Between the noises on the hosptial floor and the pain from the surgery, I didn't sleep much. The music helped alot.! Take care and good luck! Julio

Dawn, First of all good luck. I brought my own pjs with me, some magazines, my own shampoo, shower stuff, etc. toothbrush...I wanted to feel like I wasn't in the hospital, and it worked. I had lap RNY, and there was virtually no pain post surgery. In 3 days I was home and walkin' my butt off!!! Good luck to you!!! We're here if you need us! xo JA
