I had a different doc (Dr. Valin) and there they give you this strict diet before surgery so that you can shrink your liver. You do it for about a week and I lost 10 lbs. Did your doc give you any suggestions or guidelines to follow?

Hi Chrissy, (again!) I had to lose ten pounds, also. I did a modified "South Beach Diet"...here's the website I used: http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/ I virtually cut out all carbs...had a slip up or treat once in a while, but I've taken off ten to twelve pounds and have kept it off all summer. I've also started supplementing my day's diet with protein shakes. The more protein, the better weight loss. Walking...It was such a HOT and humid summer, that I wasn't able to walk as much as I wanted, but in the last few weeks, when the evenings have been getting cooler, I've been getting out and walking about a mile each time. If it weren't for these awful shin pains that I'm getting, I'd walk two or more miles, it feels that good! WATER...the one key to losing weight. Try to get at least ONE GALLON of water into yourself everyday. You will see results. You can make some decaf iced tea or add Chrystal Lite to some of it. You'll lost the weight, don't worry...just cut out those carbs...and once you get over the initial withdrawl from them, you won't miss them that much. Post or email with any questions. paula ps. maybe we can meet at a meeting sometime...or, can have a luncheon or meet and greet when I'm up in Windsor Locks next time I'm visiting my mother in law! I live in Rhode Island!

Kathy~ I am trying to eat healthy. There are so many things out thereto tempt me and the holidays are coming up... UGH! Christine~ Dr. Aranow did say that he likes southbeach because it is most like post-op diet. I am interested in the diet that Dr.Valin suggested for you... would you mind filling me on that? Paula~ Dr. A also agrees that southbeach is best. He said that he also likes Weigh****chers. I didn't think of supplementation with shakes. how is that going? What are you using to supplement? I walk quite a bit, and activity really isn't my issue. I have PCOS with insulin resistance so that is working against me. You are so right about the water. I noticed that when I do weigh****chers that the more water I drank the "easier" it was to stick to plan and to loose a little more. I would really like to loose more than the 10 lbs that Dr. A said that I have to loose. We will see. I would love to meet you. I have been going to the meetings on Mondays and I will be at the meeting on Thrusday 9/15. Will you be at that meeting? Thank you all for your posts. And thank you for the great tips. ~Chrissy

My hubby and I both had Dr. A and started the 10 pound diet at the same time. We threw out all junk in our home at a salad before our dinner most nights, did the lean cuisine thing and just ate better in general...I lost 18 prior to surgery and I think he lost 22 or something like that. You will be amazed how easy it is with surgery as your motivator! Best of luck! Kristin
