look what I found while researching...for future Bari-patients!
About the EndoBarrier™ Gastrointestinal Liner
GI Dynamics has developed the EndoBarrier Gastrointestinal Liner, a non-invasive, removable device, which is currently being tested in clinical trials around the world as a potential treatment option for obesity and type 2 diabetes. The EndoBarrier creates a physical barrier between ingested food and the intestinal wall, thereby changing the metabolic pathway by controlling how food moves through the digestive system. This mechanical bypass of the small intestine mimics the effects of gastric bypass surgery on a patient's metabolism, resulting in profound weight loss and remission of type 2 diabetes. The EndoBarrier can be easily implanted and removed endoscopically (via the mouth), without the need for surgical intervention.
Thank you for that current article..today was the first I had ever heard of it.
Kim in Fontana
Kim from what I see, the health of our future generation is bad shape. The way young people eat is horrible. Even though I am WLS patient I never ate crap. I have always liked my veggies and whole grains and fruit (and Ice Cream...but not fast food). I see soooo many pick ass kids (they learn this things from there Mom and Dad's) that I always wonder how the got fat. I am not being mean. I see it in my own grandkids.EWWW!! I don't like that!! When my 17 year old grandson says it he sounds jut like his Mom. LOL don't get me wrong I love my DIL but she is the pickiest person I think I have ever met.And yes she is obese, as was her Father who died from the complcations related to Obesity. Have you taken a look at the food we serve our kids in school? It's no wonder we are a country of fatties!
Ok I will get off my soap box. LOL

JOY
Joy I was not an obese kid. However after I turend 18, left home and ate ate ate as a direct "FU" to mommy dearest, I ballooned to 385 in no time! Diabetic yes and unmedicated because I refused to believe I had it...felt like poo poo all the time...I won't go on.
Fast forward to ready labels on student lunches. All I can say is OMG. One burrito has 53 grams of carbs! More carbs than I ingest in one day! There are more obese children at my school than normal to skinny kids. In my day, you were a freak to be fat and I cannot remember one fat kid in my school. If there was one....it surely was not remarkable because I do not remember.
We have become a society even more so of feeding them to keep them quiet so to speak. Recently my oldaer son and I were in the grocery store and this who appeared to be about 8 and morbidly obese was begging his mother for this huge chocolate bar thing. She kept telling him no as he had just consumed a very large back of 3 musketeer bars. My son and I looked at each other and we did not have to say a word to each other...we were reading each others mind.
Both of my sons have to watch their weight and have had weight issues like me. I know they are going to be somewhat diligent on their childrens eating habits as they know the consquences. They told me when I was 50 that they never thought they would have a skinny mommy....what does that tell you...they only ever knew their mother as a big fat F. Sad but true Joy.
My point is....I think it is child abuse that parents are letting their children become obese instead of putting the stopper on their eating and showing them a different way of life...and that would include school lunches....like whatever happened to mom's making a healthy lunch? I always had a sandwich and a piece of fruit for lunch...no chips, soda or cookies. I refuse to keep the stuff in my house and I refuse to feed crap to my grandchildren!!
okay off my soap box and back to packing and watching the rest of Deal or No Deal!
Hope you get through the weekend with no meds...if not...got to ER!!!

My oldest son is 40-50- pounds over weight, my youngest son is very careful.
I was not a fat kid, I was the skinny kid that my grandmother was always wanting to put some meat on my bones(She was Obese). There were only a couple kids that I can remember that were over weight, but by today's standard they would be average. I didn't really get fat until about my late 40's. I would carry an extra 20-30 pounds but not the 100 I am working on right now...make that 50 something.LOL
It is a shame, and I agree it is a form of child abuse. We,they, are creating a fat and lazy country.
