Hi everyone! I came home from hospital on Thursday, but this is the first time I felt like even touching the computer. Recovery was harder than I expected. My intestines didnt want to wake up so I had to stay an extra day in the hosptial. THey finally did and everyone in the room clapped after I finally passed gas.....it was too funny! Now I am just sore and really itchy.....did anyone else have this problem? It only itches where my incisions were and it is all red, amost a rash. I am really sick of broth and jelllo. I will be glad when I can finally move on to the pureed diet. What are some good tips for the pureed stage? I haven't had any vomiting and am trying my best to get in my liquids. That part is very hard because I am not a big fan of water. Well, looking forward to hearing from all of you.

I am so glad it all went well for you. Except for having to stay that extra day.

I will be right behind you Tuesday is coming so fast. I have to be at the Hospital at 530 in the morning and surgery is set for 730.

Take care of yourself.

Welcome Home!

During the pureed stage, you have to be creative. Just remember protein first. My favorite was taking deli cut turkey, some LF mayo, and avocado, salt and pepper. Just put it all in your chopper and it is quite yummy. And of course there are eggs, if you can tolerate them, there are tons of things you can do with them.

Best of luck to you! And remember to sip and walk!

I had my Surgery last Monday. My back, shoulders, and neck hurt the most. I guess they blow air in their during the surgery. The food in the Hospital as you mentioned was not even interesting nor was I in the mood to eat.

My incisions are starting to itch, but not unbearable. I had bee eating yogurt, cream coups, cream of wheat, pudding etc. I had my first egg this morning is was great.

Hon, The itch is more than likely from the tape on  the incision. I can't have tape... AT ALL! I am so allergic to it.
So glad all went well and you are doing ok! If you don't like water drink Crystal Lite. And don't forget to WALK, SIP, WALK, SIP!!!

Congrats!  I am so glad things went well and that you're on the mend.   Sorry you had to stay an extra day but better to be safe...

I had my gallbladder out and I remember the incisions itching.  I used a little vitamin E which was soothing.

Welcome back to the board and hope all continues to go well.

Welcome to the Losers Bench!  Just remember to take it easy, get lots of rest, walk and sip the water.  I was sooooooo not a fan of water before surgery (had to tie me down and pour it down my throat - I was a diet pepsi addict) but I am about 11 weeks out and I carry water with me.  My hubby calls me a Water Snob because I only drink Dasani because it tastes better.

Take it one day at a time, one step at a time, along with one sip at a time and pretty soon you'll be running laps with the rest of us!

Congrats and welcome to the losers bench!
I know what you mean about getting back on the computer, it took me a while to get on and am only now back to regularly checking in.
As far as the itching you might try some anti-itch cream like cortisone or benadryl just so you don't scratch too much and get infected.  As for pureed I liked chili pureed with some melted cheese.  i also took some chicken and cooked it in the crock pot with mushroom soup, garlic, salt and pepper then pureed a little at a time.  As for water I found I liked it a lot better really cold.  Also like people said try adding some flavor to it to make it taste better.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Congratulations and welcome home!  A dab of Benedryl cream (with doc's permission) is a good idea as stated above.  I still have itching and my procedure 4 weeks ago.  (I too was allergic to the dressings) I have always loved water, but got bored with having so much of it, I use Propel additive..it tastes great and has some vitamins....and no sugar.  I also found great enjoyment in pureeing some SunVista beans and then adding a bit of cheese.....hardly a toot to be concerned about..lol  I pureed some Split Pea with ham soup or Beans and Ham soup..was terrific!  I tried to stay with the higher protein foods.  I have never vomited any foods that I try, the only time I upchuck is if I take a tad too much to eat...but so far EVERYTHING agrees with me...woooohoooooooo.  This week I go to whatever stage 3 foods are, but me thinks I've already imbibed in some and then some..lol  Enjoy your early stage..its much easier than you might think and is over before you know it.
