Newbie here
Hi all - I've been reading this board for a few weeks now so I thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself. I am near the beginning of my WLS journey having attended orientation at UC Davis (Sacramento) on 10/1. I've managed to knock out some of the health screening tests (blood work, EKG, treadmill test, chest x-ray, well-woman) and I have my first consultation with Dr. Ali (or Dr. Fuller - I'm not sure which one) on 11/21. From what I understand this will be a 4.5 hour appointment where I will find out "if" I am a candidate. I am keeping my fingers crossed because I believe that this tool will be right for me!
A little about me - I'm 34, current weight is around 300, and I've ranged from overweight to morbidly obese since I was about 13 years old. I have high blood pressure, PCOS, high cholesterol, and insulin resistance/pre-Diabetes. Up until 8 days ago, I smoked between 5-15 cigarettes per day for the past 16 years.
I am looking forward to transforming my overall health and lifestyle while using this process as a tool. While I do not yet have children, my husband and I hope to someday, so I'm also looking forward to hopefully improving my reproductive health through weight loss.
Now that I'm embarking on week #2 as a non-smoker, I'm almost ready to begin the process of achieving my desired 10% weight loss prior to surgery. I have read that a low-carb/high protein diet might best prepare me for post-op, so I plan to give it a try right after Thanksgiving.
I appreciate any insight, advice, experiences, etc. you all might be able to share. Looking forward to being part of this community!

Hi there, and welcome! I thought I'd say HI because I am in West Sacramento, so not too far from you. I have Kaiser, and have to go all the way to Fremont for everything, but as of right now I am done and on the waiting list for surgery. It's nice to see people that aren't so far away!
Congrats on quitting smoking.. that is hard. Have a great day!
