I'm confused....I called Rabkin's office and they don't contract with insurance companies, did I get that right?   Is the only option to pay cash?

I don't know the doctor, but some doctors just don't want to deal with insurance companies, and when they are contracted to insurance companies, they are bound to accept the amount paid by them.  Sounds like the doc either just doing this for the money, or doesn't want to be bothered with the paper work.  If you have insurance, find another doctor that will accept insurance.  No reason to go paying 10 T or more when you are covered.

Check with your insurance plan to see if there's a doctor available to you 'in-network.' Out of network doctors will cost more. I selected an out of network doctor for my procedure. The hospital costs etc. were all covered.

Your only option shouldn't be to pay cash.

Generally if a doctor doesn't contract with insurance companies, that just means he doesn't accept their rates for the procedures. He should still work with you and submit your info to the insurance company. Then, you would probably have to pay the difference between what insurance pays him and he wants to be paid, though you could probably negotiate the details ahead of time.

If you have a policy like mine that pays zippo for an out-of-network doctor, you are pretty much screwed, but if you don't, then you may still save money over being a self-pay patient.
