Any support groups in Northern California

I will be getting my VSG on Dec 16th self pay in Mexico so I am trying to set myself up for success when I return by joining  a support group. I live in the Contra Costa County area.
Any suggestions are appreciated

There are tons of groups up here, though most are run by surgeons' offices. Some of those are open to other patients and some are not.

The two I know about that welcome people from any surgeon are in Oakland at Alta Bates (First Sat of the month?) and at Mills-Peninsula in San Mateo. There are also support groups in Livermore and Pleasanton through the Valley Care system, but I don't know if they take outside patients -- hopefully someone else will chime in on those.

Hi Tammy.  You and I are neighbors, I live in the City next to you.  My surgery was done at UCSF.  They have  a support group I believe on Wednesdays.  I don't know if there are any closer.  Since most are run by doctors or their hospitals, I don't know who will or will not let you attend.  I know that John Muir does WLS out of their Mt. Diablo facility and may very well in Walnut Creek.

I attend the John Muir Support group which meets every 2nd Saturday at John Muir Hospital Concord location.  Anne Timberlake RN is the moderator and the group is wonderful.

Come join us in Dec.  you'll be glad you did!

Congrats on your surgery.  I will be having mine at UCSF on Jan 8th.

I attended this group in October and it was wonderful!  I had to miss the November meeting because it was post op Day 2 for me, but I am looking forward to attending the December meeting....I had my surgery at this facility, but I know the support group is open to others....just before my surgery I was a nervous wreck and attending this meeting helped me tremendously...everyone was so supportive and encouraging....

  I also go to the John Muir Center- but for you there is even one closer in Antioch, it is at Sutter Delta Hospital- not sure the day or time but you can call there and they will tell you- heard it is pretty good too.
