A newbie looking for support
Hi, my name is Heather and I am located in Southern California, I am getting very close to RNY surgery with Dr. Krahn at St. Bernardine's hospital. I know this is what I want I have contemplated & researched it since 2002. One moment I am frustrated and complaining about the waiting but in all honesty it's coming together very quickly and I am starting to get nervous.
Here has been my timeline:
September 1st - Insurance change to allow WLS
September 2nd - Contacted new insurance on requirements for WLS
September 8th - Got a letter of approval from my therapist
October 8th - Saw PCP and he is completely supportive of my decision and typed up a letter stating that fact. I have a PPO so, I didn't need a referral.
October 14th - Attended Seminar with Dr. Krahn (handed in all my paperwork at the end of the seminar)
October 16th - Rec'd call from Dr. Krahn's office scheduling my consult (10/28)
October 22nd - met with my psychiatrist for my evaluation
October 24th - Went to the medical diet clinic I had been going to since June 2006 and picked up my medical chart
October 28th - Had surgical consult, decided on the lap RNY, turned in all my paperwork and rec'd checklist of items needed before submitting to insurance. Included the Upper GI and Ultrasound and a web class I had to attend.
November 6th - Had the last of the tests done and watched the classes
November 12th - confirmed with surgeon's office that everything was in and my file was going to the nurse for review.
November 17th - Alls good they are submitting to insurance
November 24th - I AM APPROVED!!!
So, from making the decision to definitely pursue surgery to approval was only 12 weeks and of that time only 6 weeks of it was complete dedication to the task at hand.
Now, I have my final education this Friday the 5th. Upon completion I will have my date before I leave the office. I want so much to have this surgery done before the New Year but not sure that will happen and at the same time I am a little nervous because the time just flies by.
Anyone else have this anxiety as you got close?
Thank you for reading,
Heather

Hi Heather!
Welcome to the CA family!
I think most people get anxious before surgery, after all, it's a big change! It's a physical risk, it's emotionally draining, it's mentally challenging, no wonder you're nervous!
Just keep your eyes on why you started looking into surgery to begin with and never lose sight of a healther happier Heather!
This is a great place for support, whenever you start to feel anxious keep reachin out!

Hi Heather,
As you can tell by my ticker, I am very quickly approaching surgery day and I must say nervous aptly describes how I feel! I, too, had a very quick process and now the day is almost here. It's probably very normal to feel anxious/excited/scared as we approach our d-day. I think it's prompting me to start planning and getting more organized so as to be better prepared for life after surgery. This is my last and final time to grab hold and take weight loss to the nth degree. Nothing has worked for any length of time before, but now I am truly committed and with this wonderful "tool" it will happen!
I've heard others say...."Hold on , it's one hellava ride!"
Welcome!! I was pretty much calm--but I had to wait longer...so how I was calm---- I read as much as I could about this wls..... here and elsewhere----I go to the support group nearby---- I got on here and asked questions.....then....when it was my date--it all felt surreal...but calm---only anxiety was calmed by knowing that I really really wanted this..... and now... just out from surgery I have had some bumps with figuring out my eating/water and nutrition....even after all my research---- but because of this site---I know I'll get through it all.... and you will too....
Best wishes!!
