How do you guys feel about Corn Nuts as a post-op snack? Would you consider these okay, or do you think they're a no-no?

(Nutritional Info for Ranch flavor is here: http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Products/ProductInfoDisplay.asp x?SiteId=1&Product=7115907311)

I had another question but I've forgotten it now, so maybe I'll post again later. For now, off to brunch!

too much sodium for me......when I want something like corn nuts I get a can of garbanzo beans, rinse them then put on cookie sheet in slow oven and keep turning until they are cooked crispy like the corn nuts, you can put seasoning salts on them of your choice.....

To me they have the same consistency as corn nuts but healthier.....

Just my Opinion.....you asked.....

I use about 250 and stir them once in awhile to make sure they all get the moisture out of them...slow oven they won't burn, just dry up....lol

I've used different seasonings like garlic salt, etc.......my grandkids love them too....pluse the can is cheap.....

My doc has always said, if there are more carbs than proteins don't bother.  I try to go by that rule all the time.  I think one of my problems is now that I like fruit too much.  At least there are no chips any longer.

Good luck, and take care

Diane, that's a good rule to live by - thanks for sharing that with me!

this is a "your mileage may vary" thing, but if NO higher protein snacks are doing it for you, and you get CornNuts in the small packages, and can eat less than one package at a time without 1) dumping or 2) continue craving until you want more than one package in a day or week or other time frame of your decision, I don't think any snack is taboo.

I am just as happy with dried legumes, like Daves dried peas or dried edamames, either from Dave or at Costco. Crisp with a dash of salt.

I am TOTALLY going to try that garbanzo recipe! Thanks! :)

I just had a craving one day and when I checked out the nutrition info, it didn't seem too bad for me. I don't dump on them, and I usually can't eat more than a third of a small package before I'm over it and I don't want anymore. I like the dried edamame from Costco but the Corn Nuts have better flavor.

I say...moderation in all things.

And my big thing is NO FAKE FOOD. To me this means No high fructose corn syrup (it makes you crave sweets) No fake fats... i.e margarine, it taste like crap to me and if I want butter, moderation is the rule. In other words natural is best for me...for all of us, like it or not.

My favorite snack right now is 1 oz of roasted, lightly salted, mixed nuts. It satisfies and is pretty healthy. And one ounce is about all I ever want. But, I have only had it twice since my WLS.
I love the favor of corn nuts but I don't (can't) do MSG and the last time I checked they were still using it as a favor enhancer (my bladder soesn't like it). and they are very hard to digest (duh, Corn?).

I think if you enjoy it and don't get carried away go for it...in moderation.

HUGS...and have a wonderful Christmas.3D Santa
