What I should buy and be stocked up on pre-op?

Hello to all and I hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Years day! I'm on here all the time absorbing great suggestions and information from eveyone who posts. I was approved for my RNY through my insurance!   Looks like surgery will be this month sometime. I'm not sure what I need to buy for post op. I know I need to have a good multivitamin and look into some protein. But what other kind of vitamins do I need to have. I think calcium. I wonder if liquid or pill form is best on getting my daily vitamin intake... Any suggestions would be great. Thank you very much

You really need to see what your surgeon says.  They all have a protocol that they follow and you should  get thtat thru his pt education program.
I know what I do is  2 multi vitamin a day by bariatric advantage, 3 calcium per day and b12 1000mcg daily. Chewable will be best. Stay away from liquid its enough to gag a magot.

Thanks for the advice, Then I will just wait for my surgeon to give me that protocol of what I need when I see him on the 7th. You had me cracking up about the liquid vitamins...lol. Have a Happy New Year!

Angelina...congratulations being approved for your surgery!

Listen to Liz...it is important that you follow your doctors protocal...each doc varies in what they require or what they think works best for their patients. He should give you a guideline to follow.

I can tell you by experience that I had a huge problem with liquid vitamins. I thought okay I cannot stand the chewable ones and drank them in liquid form.Well I did not realize that it was the vitamins that was killing my pouch until one day I went off without taking them....and guess what? No pouch hurting until I got home and took my vitamins and there is was the same pain!! So from that point on...I swallowed vitamins and I have never had an issue with swallowing pills after my surgery...a lot of people do, but I do not! YAY!!!

Good luck and we will all be looking forward to being able to call you a LOSER soon!!!! Bounce

Thank You so much for the advice... I have no problem with pills either. The liquid vitamins do sound kind of gross anyway. I will definitely follow whatever protocol my doc gives me. I just wanted to see what all of you had to buy or are taking. I can't wait to be a loser also...hehe
Have a fantastic New Year!

Hi Angelina - congrats on your surgery approval....how exciting.  I just have to DITTO everything Liz said - each Dr is different....you just need to follow your Drs protocol...also don't buy alot of protein powders or protein supplements before surgery as your tastes will probably change after the surgery.  Try to get protein samples....I know that www.unjury.com has sample sizes you can order online...they were my favorites after surgery and I still like them to this day.  I recommend SF jello and SF popsicles FOR SURE....but you need to wait until you get the info from your Dr and see what his protocol is and what he recommends.  I did chewable vitamins and calcium in the beginning but they were gross (to me) so I now take all pill form and have had no problems but everyone is different.

Again congrats and don't ever be afraid to ask questions here - there is a wealth of info available.....

Hello Jean,
Thank You for your support and great advice. I guess I will just wait to see what my doc has to say before I purchase anything. I will check out those samples for sure. You live in gorgeous Seals Beach...wow..so nice there. Thanks again and have a Fabulous New Year!

Congratulations on your approval!

Vitamins:
I agree with everyone except the I'm weird and actually liked the Tropical Oasis liquid vitamins for the first 2 months and am taking chewables now. lol  If your doctor hasn't given you a bunch of information on what to do pre and post op, call and ask for one.  Mine gave me 50+ pages of information to be read 3 times before surgery.

Protein:
Isopure Zero Carb RTD, GNC carries it. I ordered the variety pack to find out chich flavors I liked.

I'm a big fan of www.jayrobb.com protein powder mostly because my taste for it didn't change.  I liked it before and after surgery.  They have chocolate, vanilla, pina colada and tropical dreamsicle.  They sell in one serving size packets so you can try them before buying a big contaier.
They also have soy and egg white in case you turn out to be lactose intolerant after surgery.

I also like Nectar Sweets Chocolate Truffle whey powder and Pro-Optimal Whey vanilla protein powder.
