I was originally going to have a party at her house...  have a cater come in and serve whatever we decided on...  cake and ice cream ..... then everyone would leave.....

I wanted to invite everybody...  whoever came fine.. whatever time you came fine....  whatever time you left fine...

We don't have alot of areas people can sit but I didn't see that as a hugh problem.....

so, my brother talks to me and maybe it is a problem....   so we're thinking more on the lines of a banquet, in the afternoon, and the host site would serve....

But, I don't have a clue where?

It would be in Sacto...  between South Sac and Elk Grove....    Any ideas?  I'm at a complete loss...  a meltdown wanna cry kinda loss!

Her b-day is in a couple weeks.  Has anyone had a party for a older adult anywhere that won't cost a complete fortune?

I forget the name of it but the boat in old town Sac has great parties and works with you.  Is it the delta queen?  I forget but it is reasonable and the people are nice.  Good luck to you!

Kelley,

One of the things that can be reasonable is to have an hors d'ouvre party at a hotel.  It's a very slow time of year for some places and they need the revenew.  Generally, they will give you the room free, you purchase the food and then do soda's or whatever.  Keep in mind that liquor is what costs, so you might wish to have punch or wine to keep costs down.

Chevy's is another place that has fairly decent prices and usually big spaces where they will do a separate seating.

Also, one last place I can think of up your way is an Italian Restaurant where we've been a couple times called Espanola.  They have rooms that can be sectioned off and their food was reasonable.

Hope this helps,

Barb

Thank you for your suggestions,

The Delta Queen is a great suggestion and so is the restaurant.    I love Italian foods and the Delta Queen is too cool.   Been there for a couple parties...  had forgot all about that!

I'll be checking those out.

I just had a birthday party for my Mom on Dec 21st. Hard time of the year with the holidays and all but it went very well.

We had an open house at her house. I made it easy on myself and bought most of the food from Albertsons, sandwich trays, cheese and meat platters, veggies and fruit trays. I had two ice chests, one with water the other with sodas and then a large pot of coffee. All together the total cost was around $300.00.

We set the time from 1:30-3:30 and thought people could come and go that way. We ended up having 65-70 peolpe show up and they were there all at the same time. My Mom was thrilled!

Luckily it was a beautiful crisp day and some people went in the back yard. For the most part most stood around in the house holding plates and visiting.

Good luck and Happy Birthday to your mother!

Thank you!
From your post, I could feel the party was a success!  LOL...   just the way you wrote about it made me smile..

You know, this morning I was talking to a different brother...  (I have 2) and now we're beginning to think maybe we'll just have a small gathering here in my home.    My mom is still in the process of getting these chemo treatments for colon cancer and needs to be near a restroom...

My brother got me thinking that maybe trying to get her out somewhere isn't the best idea after all.   Then, the other portion of this is,  we're thinking it would be good to have something at my house...   except, I live a little over 20 miles from my mom and any of her friends...   what if people don't want to drive that far?

So.... my friend say's those that really care about your mom will make the drive....    which leaves me with trying to figure out who all would come, how much food...  just a lot of stuff to think about when I'm actually going to be doing it by myself.

My brothers are just running thier mouths when they say they're going to help!   Yeah right!   LOL....    And, my sister is tripping!

So, I guess it will probably be immediate family.   I'm bummed and happy with that idea.  Bummed cause I wanted to give her an all out and out...  and happy cause I was feeling overwhelmed.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions tho!    You all really reached out!

Hopefully we'll agree on something small here in my home with just the immediate family...  I guess...

One of the main reasons I decided to have the open house at my Mom's house is that she has gastric cancer and I didn't want her having to go somewhere else in case she got tired.

I needed to make it easy on the birthday girl, since that in the long run would make it easier on me!
