Why is it wrong for DSers to post on this board?

Thank you Monica. I did post here more often when I started on OH. Now I mainly post on the DS board or the insurance board. I feel that my thoughts and support are more appreciated there. I do post here but sometimes it feels like my posts are totally ignored. I can't even tell you how many times I will reply to someone and they thank everyone else on the thread BUT me. After awhile getting that kind of  response/ "support" is just not doing it for me. Thank you for not being judgemental and having an open mind, I too try to do the same.
Happy New Year to you

I believe the name of this website that hosts all these different boards is Obesity Help.  All methods of WLS are designed towards that end.  With that in mind, I submit that, all forms of WLS can be discussed.

It appears, that some feel that one way or another is preferable, smarter, (insert any adjective) and so now we have people who are divided into camps.  In a world where there is so much hate and misunderstanding, it is painful to see people with a common goal being unkind to each other.  Whether it is a harsh response to a post, or whether it is a belittling return to that response.  Yes, we are all passionate about our journey.  That's okay.  Let's try to be respectful and tolerant.

I'd like to think that we can discuss things without first looking at the type of surgery a person had.  RNY, Lap Band, VS, DS or whatever (I apologize for any I have left out), and no matter what the choice, that we can just get along.  Perhaps I'm over-simplifying and maybe I don't know the whole history, but nothing says we have to perpetuate it.  This is a great board with very good people. I am grateful that it exists, and that I have had the opportunity to meet so many people from all walks of "surgery."

Happy New Year, everyone!

I must say I was kinda suprised to see this topic addressed toward Neely ,on the other hand I've had people jump in my ass for making a comment that some people treat this site like my space I am originally trying(and trying and trying) for a RNY. Neely has been very helpful as far as giving me info about my options and how to deal with insurance..NEVER did she try to shove DS down my throat or present it as the only "intelligent choice" alot of people myself included are lead to believe from some surgeon web sites and even pamphlets I got from the DR.'s office that insurance will rarely approve this (DS) surgery which after speaking with her I found thru insurance web sites she gave me this just isnt true. Not alot of surgeon perform this surgery so I believe ( and as a nurse I've seen it before) if the Dr. youre going to doesn't do it they are going to tell you you shouldnt do it,this is happening to me now with RNY....The only thing ignorant is allowing my Dr. to tell me over and over "No youre getting a Lap-band we'll do RNY later" and allowing him to tell me what I HAVE to do. that is what I think she meant, dont let the Dr's and insurance tell you what you surgery you HAVE to have ,be your own advocate. The more information we can get out there on ALL available options the better,We are here to support each other aren't we?? Everyone is different, how they express them selves, or how passionate they are about a subject..I dont believe any surgery or information has been presented negatively but everyone needs to take into account some people have been fighting for their surgery for years and inturn are fighting for their very lives...Unfortantly there are people on all communication and support group sights that when they dont agree with a post they act like they run the place and get their panties in a twist and end up running good people off, which is a shame we need all the information and support from others we can get. Just take a deep breath and remember we are all here trying to get our lives under control and any help we can get we should treasure!

Thank you Melissa. I am glad that we are friends. I do not think my post is in any way negative and can not believe that people who actually spew their venom at me. I try to be supportive it really is hard on some of these messageboards.

You know this kind of crap, which I have participated in is EXACTLY why people quit posting.  TOO much drama and BS.  After reading what Ms Cox does for a living, comeon, she couldn't shut her opinion up if she wanted to.  We don't care who posts here, but none of us on THIS board advocated JUST our surgery.  I don't give a rats butt what you have had done, if it works for you, goodie goodie gum drops, but don't come here and insinuate that we don't help people and talk about other surgeries.  As I have stated before, I don't go over and call you DS'er who seems to consume food like there is no tomorrow, and proud of it, and call you pigs and what have you done so you didn't have to change an eating habits, why can't you all just stop this crap, keep Ms Cox, a professional mouth peace, off of here from advocating DS, and insuating that we don't tell people about other surgeries.  I really think that is what has everyone upset.  Now then of course as I said, DS'er would be over here trying to defend their surgery.  WE DON'T CARE what you had!  Either join us with your problems and possible solutions we have, or go back to your board and discuss how you can come over to this side and be more proactive and less offensive!  We are not here to judge, but to help one another.  I am DONE with this crap!

My response to everyone is- If your choise of weight loss surgery works for you great.  I wish I knew about this web site back in 2001 when I had surgery for the lap band. I would have have not had the lap band. I had to many complications but on the other hand other people have had great success. I choose to have a revision to the RNY on 7/9/08. So fare I have lost 91lbs with 55lbs more to lose.  So not all surgeries are the same but not all people and there lives the same. My question to everyone is are we all here because of obesity? Are we all not looking to change are lives to a healthier and more productive life? Did we all start this journey looking for the same results? (One that works to loses weight and get healthy)? If so then we all are in the right web site to recieve INFORMATION so one can make the best possiable decision for themselves. May everyone find what is right for them. Sincerely, Cathy

Dianne, It was posts like the one you have posted here that made me decide to leave the OH Board. I quit posting and have debated whether to return to such a hostile environment now that I have decided on DS as my WLS. I had been an active member since 2003, but became disillusioned with the infighting and nasty letters such as this one you have just posted. Ms Cox has been extremely helpful to me. She has nothing to gain by lending her help and advice. I am going to make a post soon announcing my decision. I am curious about what kind of greeting or support I will receive. Please, after all my years of waiting and research, I don't need the discouraging, belittling remarks that you enjoy posting. ~Gail R
