How you are feeling is perfectly normal.  I, myself, was more excited than nervous, but then again, that was just me .  You are going to be just fine.  I strongly encourage you to find a good support group and read as much as you can regarding the proceedure.   Remember to follow your surgeon's protocol: walk, walk, walk and sip , sip, sip.  You should be alright.

Kim

Without struggle, there is no progress.

Pauline,

I am going in for my surgery tomorrow, and while I am excited I am also nervous.  I had my gallbladder out about 5 years ago and that was my 1st surgery ever, and I breezed through that.  I think I was more nervous for that (due to fear of the unknown) than I am this time.  I really like my surgeon which makes things a bit more relaxed as well.

One thing that has helped me, is to reflect on the fact that this surgery will be my tool to help me gain control of something that has been making my life miserable for the past 29 years, my weight.  I am taking this as an opportunity for a new lease on life, a new beginning!  Imagine, I can start over at 53!  LOL  No more diabetes, no more high blood pressure, 60% less risk of getting cancer, it truly is a winner.

Please know that you have a family here on the Cali Board and we are all here to support you through this.  I live close by you, if you need support PM me.  Once I get on my feet, you are jusy an hour away and I would love to come and help you through this, as others have helped me.

You're gonna do great and have a new start on a great new you!

I have had 3 major surgeries just this year alone and I totally understand.  It's doesn't get easier with each one, but what you are really afraid of is the unknown.  You are going to be busy when you get to the hospital, they will be talking to you, taking history, asking you all kinds of things, then you will be alone for awhile, they will start an IV on you which is not bad as long as you get someone good.  Then you will meet with the guy who will be putting you asleep.  Tell him everything about you, even talk to much, I always feel like they are the most important person in an operating room.  Tell him to give you a good ****tail.  It will be something to relax you before you go into surgery.  I LOVE them.  More than likely you will have a nurse come and see you too, they will tell you that they will be in there with you and are pretty much your instant friend.  Just try and relax, it's not bad, and all you do is go to sleep and then wake up, seems like 3 minutes of time.  As everyone has said it is perfectly normal to feel this way.  You will be fine, take good care and enjoy the next few weeks.  You will be joining alot of us out here who are so happy with what we did.

Good luck, Diane

Hi Pauline!
We almost share a surgery date, you are 1 day ahead of me.  I am a little nervous as the date gets closer, but I think we are making one of the best changes in our life.  Just think, in 3 weeks we will be losers! I can't wait.  I wish you all the best and I'm sure both of us will be just fine.  I'm actually reading yet another book on WLS, written by Dr. Garth from Big medicine, and I really like it because he explains everything in really simple terms and it makes me feel even more confident in my decision.
I've never had surgery either, no broken bones, had boh of my kids without any problems.. but I can't wait!

Good luck,
