Hello folks, I have just started back on my journey towards WLS. I guess that I got off to a bad start on that trip because I am already the subject of a topic that I can't read because I am blocked. Oh My! Anyway, after a lot of time and research, I decided to challenge Kaiser's RNY only policy and pursue a DS. Many years ago when I first became active on the CA board, it was an encouraging environment to everyone. Heck, there was one or two people that decided against any sort of surgery but stayed on for the support. I hope that I can find that support here despite the fact that I am choosing the DS. I hope to hear from a few of my dear old friends.

I remember you!

I too fought for my DS. It took over two years and BC finally caved.  I would rather had stayed fat than have a surgery I could live with as a post op.

Us Californians have it pretty good.  The Dept of Managed Healthcare will overturn a DS denial everytime.

Good thing we have Diana Cox and her wisdom on our side.

Come on over to the DS board!!!

Thanks for the encouragement Laurie. Right now, it is the only reason that I am here on the CA Board.

Thanks Monica! I remember when you first posted to the CA board. I am so glad you are still here. I am going to be strong and fight for this WLS. I appreciate your support.

Hi Gail,
I fought Kaiser last year and won my DS.  It can be done!  Luckily for us, we're in CA and have DMHC & the IMR process.

ETA:  Dr Rabkin is having his seminar this Wed at 6pm at St Marys.  The user support group meets there too.  Kaiser does send everyone to Dr Rabkin.  If you can make it, we can talk.  I'm coming down from Sac.  Another Kaiser lady will be there too.  I think I talked to two others at the last meeting.

Hi! I'm glad I decided to check the Cali board tonight/this morning (I generally just lurk on the DS board and figured I'd come check out my state board for a change) and I'm glad I did!

There are many people who are challenging Kaiser and winning through DMHC and the IMR process for DS's (virgin and revision). I won through IMR against BlueCross Medi-Cal, and it was a long fight but well worth it.

I'm glad you came back, and hope you'll join us over on the DS board as well (where you will *definitely* get supported!).

I do understand how you're feeling as far as feeling hesitant about lack of support here on the Cali board because you've chosen the DS. I mean, the woman who posted below about "DS'ers" in general was horribly nasty. Everytime I've come to this board I've tried to be supportive of anyone with any surgery (or none at all) and I've never been rude or aggressive with anyone, but she is being both to ALL DS'ers in general. So I can totally see how you would be a bit nervous about coming back here, Gail. Just know that there are DS'ers here on the Cali board, and we will be supportive of you, as well. It may not seem like we're here because we mostly lurk since there is a high prevalence of RNY folks who can become highly aggitated really quickly simply by a DS'er posting.

*big hugs*

I'm wishing you the best in your journey and total success getting your DS!
