Hello all you fabulous people... I have questions about protein shakes, powder. I haven't gotten anything protein yet because I'm still waiting for a couple of samples in the mail. I just heard that I shouldn't invest the money yet for the protein since after my surgery my taste can change. I wanted to know what you guys are using to get your daily protein in? Also, the cost, name and where I can get it? I just know of a couple of places and really haven't had a chance to shop around. Of course I will have to get it because it's a necessity but wondering if anyone knows of a good protein source that is affordable. So tomorrow is my big day and I want to Thank you all for such great encouragement and advice. Most of the time, I get my questions answered from posts and just love it! You Guys Rock!!!

Angelina,

Congrats on your big day tomorrow.  I am amazed that 3 days later I am feeling as good as I do.  I have a little pain when I stand and sit but the it's just sore, I wouldn't say pain.  I do have a high tolerance to pain though.

One piece of advice that cannot be said enough, is walk, walk, walk.  If they tell you to do 3 do the 3 and if you are feeling good do 4, it really helps push the gas out.  I burped A LOT the 1st 2 days and didn't pass gas until today but man, it sure did feel good LOL

Protein, I bought myloplex carb lite and some protein water supplement by Kellog, but since everyone told me to sort of wait, that's what I've been doing.  My surgeon doesn't focus on aso many grams of protein in the 1st 2 weeks, he wants you to take it easy on the pouch and do creamy low fat soups, sf pudding, lf cottage cheese, and a protein drink if you wish.  He will do a blood test at the 1-2 week point and it will let him know what needs to be adjusted if any.

I have made an excel spreadsheet to keep track of everything, food, water and vitamins so I can e-mail it and take it with me to that appointment.  I have a tough time getting it all in!

Hello Barb,
You put me at ease and I sure will be walking as much as I can. That spreadsheet sheet is a good idea and I think I'll do that as well. I also have a high pain tolerance and so I'm sure I will be trying to get out of there...hehe. Again, Thank You for your suppport and advice. I'll be in touch...

Hi Angelina, congrats on your surgery tomorrow. You are going to be a LOSER!!!!! Wooohoooo!!! I am 8 months out and I still drink protein shakes to supplement my food intake. I broke my ankle 6 weeks after my RNY and spent 13.5 weeks in a wheelchair. The extra protein is helping with the healing process. I use Unjury protein in chocolate and vanilla. They are so yummy. They have samples for $1.75 each so you try before you buy. Just go to www.unjury.com . I also use Matrix 5.0  in chocolate and vanilla. Their cookies and cream is really good too. You can get it at www.bariatriceating.com . Good luck tomorrow! =)

Congratulations!! I wish you nothing but the best of luck. The used and still use Slim fast Low Carb meal replacement shakes. They are the blue low carb ones not the red ones. They come in Choc & Vanilla. I really liked them and they were terribly expensive. Good luck.

Hello Barb,
You can get the Low Carb Slim Fast just about anywhere.  I have seen them at Walgreens, CVS, Target, Walmart and and grocery store.

I bought mine at Ralphs, Target, CVS, Walgreens and anywhere they sell slimfast. Just remember they are the blue ones, the low carb. And sometimes to spice it up a bit. You can mix the vanilla one with a little bit of the SF orange jello mix to make it taste like an orangesicle. Just throw them both in the blender or just add 1/2 small banana with the vanilla in a blender to make a sweeter taste.
