Hello everyone!

Anyone have Anthem BCBS of California and been approved for VSG?

Hi there,

I have Blue Cross/Anthem HMO and was approved for my RNY. I was soooo lucky all I had to pay for was the hospital co-pay which was $250.00. Just do exactly what your Dr. tells you, if he is a good one he will help you get approved.  Good luck.

Have you tried posting this question on the VSG board or the insurance help board? I know I've seen a couple of posts lately where people have been approved for the VSG with BCBS. I don't remember if they are out of CA or not, but maybe you could use their approvals to help you when or if you have to appeal for the VSG. Best of luck

I have Anthem BCBS PPO, and unfortunately had to self pay. They do approve the DS--perhaps you could do it in two parts and not go back for the switch...I do know someone who has BC PPO--and hers was approved, so double check...

Good luck

I do not believe that any ethical surgeon would bill the insurance for the DS and only do the VSG. There are cir****tances where the surgeon can not do the DS all at once because of complications from a previous surgery, too much time on the operating table, etc , so that would be a valid reason for not being able to do the full DS. But I really don't think telling the OP to commit insurance fraud is going to help them. Just because we DSers say the first part of the DS is the VSG doesn't mean that they do the actual DS in 2 parts.
