Does your life really change that much

Hi I was going through persons weight loss journeys. And I noticed that once they get the wls the disappear. When they are going through the process they are always on here posting and then they forget about the website. Maybe because I still have to go through mine and then I will see what the difference is. I bet the lack of energy has alot to do with it. When I get home from work I barely have energy.

Gosh I hope not ... I depend on the support I get here at OH on a daily basis to help keep me on track and accountable.  I actually have so much more energy than I ever had pre-op, but I value my OH time.  I hope to keep seeing you here for a long time

Everyone changes in their own unique way. Most wls patients find social settings less intimidating or find activities which are more active and less sedimentary. I tend to think of the process like a baby learning to walk.

Pre-op(standing with support) = fear of the unknow, very shaky, needing lots of support from others.

New Post ops (first steps) = needing direction and encouragement and needing support every once in a while

Further out Post ops (up and running) = they have a handle on it and come back when issues occur or to say hi. They are on to other challenges (marathons)

Why do you want to have surgery? What do you plan on doing when you are at a normal weight? My list just keeps getting longer and longer. Everyday I think up things that were uncomfortable / awkward at my highest weight but now are thrilling and exciting.  Ever consider bungie jumping?
these are just my thoughts on the subject and everyone changes in unique ways

Your right and I hope once I have my wls I change but for good. Like doing more things with my kids I have a 14 a 7 and a 3 year old. When I think about it my weight stops me from doing stuff with them. Even going to the park and running after my 3 year old. Just your everyday things. Maybe I wont be on here everyday like now. But I just love reading all the weight loss journeys.

Hi Belen, yes a lot of people stop coming to the boards after they have have their surgery. Most don't. I have been on the boards for about 2 1/2 years and had my surgery 8 1/2 months ago. I have no intention on leaving this board. This is Home to me and these people are Family. This is where I get the majority of my support. Especially after breaking my ankle 6 weeks post-op. In my opinion, I would be a fool to leave this board. Good luck in your process and I wish you much success in your weight loss journey. =)

Hola Belen!

I browse the Cali board to keep up with folks.  But now that I'm at a different stage in my journey I read other boards more often like plastic surgery and exercise.

My OH friends that I've made here will always be a part of my life. Except now I keep in touch with them on Facebook or via email....or at cofee once a month in Long Beach.  You should come out and meet everyone next Saturday!

Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

Hi Belen:

My life changed dramatically after having wls and reconstructive surgery, but that never made me leave the boards. I am 6.5 years post op and I stuck around not only for support because there really is not a whole lot of support out here in the desert, but to pay it forward to and be here for people who need help.

I was fat when my boys were little and I did not get this surgery until I was 48....sad but turn. Now that I have grandchildren, I am able to keep up with them and I have thought to myself from time to time....wow they will never know a fat grandmother. How cool is that?

It is all up to you how much you want to change your life after wls. Like Bekki said a lot of us become more social....well I was always social and I did not give the impression off that I was all that uncomfortable either. However, I was dying a million deaths inside sometimes.

Ironic that sometimes I feel more insecure now because I feel as though I am judged more. I just know that wls is not the cureall for somethhings, but it sure was for my health.

I hope that you will stick around....yeah maybe not as much as some of us...but enough to keep yourself in check and be a part of this great group of people!

Hi Belen
Best of luck on your journey.....I have to agree with many others here on the Cali board....this place is family....I try to post every day although some days are busier than others...I do not ever want to leave the boards as everyone here is so supportive and as Katt said - "family".  I have met some really awesome people here that I know will be life long friends....and...like MOnica said - come out and join us at LB coffee.....we meet one Sat a month at the Starbucks on Bellflower Blvd and Spring st...(usually the last Sat of the month but this month it was moved up a week so I could be there as I wouldn't be available on the last Sat).  I don't know where you live in LB but do try to come out and join us.  I was born and raised in LB so I have a special feeling for the city...

Hang in there and it will all happen....

Hope to see you at coffee.

My life has changed a lot.  I used to sit in front of the computer all day.  Now I have to exercise and I'm doing other things that I coldn't do before (like kayaking, hiking and dancing).  Yes, energy has a lot to do ith it, ad the fact that I can do so many more things now.  I don't check in every day now but I do try to keep my journal up-to-date and enter them into my blog.
