Hi Belen,

Welcome!  Many of us are at different stages of WLS.  I am a little over a year and a half out now, but I read the posts here everyday, and occasionally post as well.  You should as Jean and Monica have suggested come to LB Coffee this coming Saturday.  It would be fun to meet you, and it's a pretty nice group of people.  I'm also in LB so it's great to see another LB person posting!

I just thought I would give you my opinion LOL . I think it is important as a Post op to stay connected to a support group. They say the first year after surgery the weight falls off but after that you have to start paying more attention to what you are eating. So it's best to just stay connected and on track.

I do think that you and our life changes after surgery. It is true that you will have more energy and just physically feel better. You also seem to view life in a more positive light. I think this surgery has been the best thing I have ever done for myself.

This is my only support group...I don't like to drive after night, like a lot of us "older" people (Geez, I hate saying that!!) So, I don't do the only support group in my county. So, this is were I come and to be very honest...I have not been disappointed yet! And even if it isn't always something I want to hear, it is supportive and honest.Which is what I need and want most.
I am here to stay, maybe not every day but I am here and not going anywhere.

Hi OP~

I have noticed that I run hot and cold with OH. There are times that I am really into it, and I like getting involved in discussions, and there are other times when I just lurk, or don't even check the forums for a while.

Sometimes I actually have to step away from the boards. My dietitican (she's someone I see privately, and is not associated with my surgeon's office)  and I have discussed some of the "advice" that I've seen on the forums, and there are times that my sessions with her have focused on my learning to relax if I am not doing something (i.e. eating) the same way that is recommended on the boards.

For me, it is a question of learning to trust myself, and to learn in whom I choose to put my I trust (and I really trust my dietitian), and to not get too rattled about opinions from people who are not my mentors, particularly when those opinoins sound authoritative.

Also, sometimes I'm just focused on other things so I don't lurk or post. But when I have a question or a challenge or something, I can come back. That's what so nice about this kind of forum, it is there when you need it., and there is sufficient number of members that the group will not go silent if I am quiet for a while.

One more plug for the Long Beach Coffee--I really like that group because it's informal and fun. Besides great people and lots of laughs, on the highlights of the get-togethers, at least for me, is the clothing swap. It is an informal thing--people bring clothes that they have shrunk out of and everyone who is interested can see if there is anything they like.

I've gotten a few really useful pieces of clothing this way, but even more gratifying is that I've been able to away a lot of clothing to other people.

I'm looking forward to attending this Saturday and I hope to see you there!

One(I've got more clothing to give away!)

Best,

Cindy
