Vitamins

Does anyone know if you are allowed to dissolve your chewable vitamins and drink them, or mix them with food or something.  I enjoyed taking my Celebrate Vitamins before my surgery, and now they don't seem the same.. My iron one isn't to bad, and I don't mind my sublingual B-12 either,  but I am dreading taking my multi and my calcium..   So it would be much easier if I could crush and and mix with either food or water, but don't want to do that if it ruins absorbing them properly.

(I know you guys are not Dr's, but thought you may have experienced this too and may know the answer.)

Thanks for your time Cali!

Hugs,
Jenn

Jenn,
Sometines 'normal' vitamins are not made to be crushed.  They can be very harsh on your new stomach/pouch.  Remember to treat it gently during the healing process.  Do you have any samples from Bariatric Advantage?  They are chewable and taste okay.  I can mail you up some orange multi's and calcium.  I also had liquid flavored orange multi from Vitamin Shoppe or GNC.  I will look for samples from BA today.  Just let me know!

Jan gave me some, but can't really remember what she gave me, and I didn't write them down.. LOL  I have such a bad memory.. I do remember I tried the cinnamon one from BA (not sure which it belonged to mulit, calcium, etc  again didn't write it down), but   I have the Celebrate ones, kinda like BA, but just a different company..  But since the surgery I dred taking them.. If I don't like them, I am affraid that is going to hurt me taking them..  I DO NOT WANT TO NOT TAKE MY VITAMINS! So any help would be appreciated..

Thanks for the help Leann..

Cinnamon is Calcium.  I would still take the Celebrate if it is chewable.  Is it a bariatric vitamin?  Not sure who they are, but I guess I should look it up, huh?  Even though you are a newbie, your body does have a stockpile of vitamins - if you were a faithful vitamin taker before surgery.  My surgeon's paperwork says multi and b-12 vitamins can be taken right away.  Calcium is started at 1 month.  And must be Calcium Citrate.   Pills, in general, should be the size of a small finger nail (or sudafed size).  Hope this is helping and not confusing you.

Yes they are a Bariatric Supplements, and the Calcium in Calcium Citrate.. I just can't stand the tatse of the multi and the calcium I take as I gag just to get them down.. I do not want them to be that hard to take, or I fear I will not take them.. So what I am asking is if you are allowed to crush them since they are a chewable and put them into something???  Liquid, pudding (SF of course) etc..
Or do you have to eat them alone??

Hope that helps us both.. Hehehehe  sorry if I too confused you..

BIG HUGS LEANN,
Jenn

Jenn, Have you tried the Centruim Chewables? That is what I take. They taste like orange sweet tarts and the cost less than those you are taking. YOu can get them at Wal-Mart for sure.

the smallest one was b-12 sublingual (pinkish)
next to small is iron (purple-ish) passion fruit
next is multi (beige orange in color) orange
the big pink, cinnamon ones are calcium (the also come in chocolate)

I don't care if you don't want to take your vitamins, hold your nose and  take them until you get new ones in! LOL  I know you don't want iron infusions and brittle bones.

I would think crushing them and putting them in water would make them rush through your system and not be absorbed,  Akin to not drinking 30 minutes before and after meals...  I'd check with the doctor on this one.

Have a fun time with your new OH friend. :-)
