Suggestions on what to eat.

I'm 1 month and 2 weeks out of surgery. Been doing good with blenderized soups and protein drinks, but now I need more. My Doctor said I could eat anything within the boundries as far as sugar & carbs(very little of those) of cousre more protein. I haven't yet figured out what to eat that's safe. Don't want to get sick so I've been playing it safe. Now I'm getting
HUNGRY.
Any simply suggestions. I'm not a very good cook so it needs to be simply and handy.

Hi njo...

Did your surgeon give you a specific food list?  If not, you may want to ask.

Here are some suggestions to transition from pureed foods to solids, and get some protein

Scrambled eggs (add some cheese maybe)
Cottage Cheese
Tuna mixed with some FF mayo
Chicken (make sure it's moist)
Turkey deli meat
FF refried beans
Ground turkey (I make turkey chili)

There are lots of other things out there, too.  You just need to go slow - what works well for one, may not work for another.  I, personally, think the key is eating slow, taking small bites and chewing really well (I'm talking 40 chews per bite).

Good luck - I'm sure you'll get some other good suggestions, too.

Yogurt
One I my favorites and still is ground turkey topped with spaghetti sauce and a sprinkle of cheese. It is so satisfying. Make sure to chew, chew, chew!

Good Luck.

I'm not sure this will fall under your boundaries, but I made a hot and sour soup with tofu. Okay, I know tofu has a certain yuck factor, but it is really good. What I do is buy the hot and sour powder mix from the store, Ken's light asian salad dressing, and medium firm tofu (you also need 1 egg). Put some dressing in a frying pan with the tofu (just enough to cover it all). Sautee it until there is very little liquid left. Prepare the soup like the package says (I add a little more water because it is a tad salty). It is a saltier dish, so if you are avoiding sodium, it may not be a good choice. It will probably make 4 meals for you.

I loved sliced deli meats
I ate most of the things others have suggested
Canned chicken was good for me because it stays moist
I made tuna salad about 100 different ways (mayo and spices, soy sauce wasabi and ginger, italian dressing, you name it I tried it!)
Fat free peanut butter, not super high in protein but a nice little snack if you have a hankering for something different.

Just try new things, if you eat slowly and chew well you will be surprised how few things are likely to make you sick!

Just wondering, what do you eat the tuna with? Anything or just plain. So use to eating stuff like that with crackers or bread and that's a NO!
Deli meats sliced really thin sounds good, I'm going to try that for some thing different.Thank You for you help.

When I was in the purees stage, I was completely anti-food!  My favorite thing I could eat was turkey chili and beef chili from Trader Joe's with some shredded cheese.

Hi there,
I spent a day and made a bunch of recipes from eggface and bariatriceating.com. I cut them into serving sizes, wrap in saran wrap and freeze in a ziploc to take and micro as needed. This way I have a variety around if I am out of time, or want to brown bag my lunch. There are lots of yummy ones to pick from. Frozen shrimp are good to keep on hand, just set in a bowl of water for a few minutes to defrost a few to eat. Lasagna minus the noodles. protein bars are good to have around too, jus****ch the sugar in them. South Beach are my favorite so far, crunchy and not overly sweet with sugar alcohols. I like to keep a big variety of soups around too. frozen meatballs are another quick meal, you can add sauce and cheese or to soup for extra protein. Frozen and pantry things are great because they last, but yogurt and cheese, and cottage cheese are staples too. There are endless options, just have to read the labels.
Congrats on 6 weeks! Kristi
