Doctors appt. didnt go as I had planned

Well, I went tot he doctor today to get refills on ALLLLL my meds and possibly discuss the idea of getting a referral to the surgeon. While I was sitting there and my Dr. was looking over my chart, I coughed.  He looked @ me and asked if I was pregnant, to which I laughed @ him for suggesting. I was spayed like 4 years ago...  He then asked me if I had asthma, I was like no, I don't think so. Well, he listened to my chest, Immediately left the room and had the nurse come in and do an EKG... Well Shoot if I don't have a leaky heart valve.... And I am an asthmatic now too.. WOO HOOO !!! more co-morbidity's.... just what I needed.  I have to go in on Thursday and Friday for extensive testing to find out how bad my circulation in my legs is (Thursdays appt) and to see how extensive the leaky heart valve is (Fridays appt.). He thinks I will probably need surgery to repair it. WOW!!!!! can we say SCARED?!?!

Any ideas on what I can plan on for the Dr.s visit this week? What exactly are they gonna do?? Anyone know??

Thanks for the input....

Hi Jennifer,

I don't know what is going to happen at your doctor appointment, but I wanted to say that I am sorry to hear about the way your doctor appointment went.  I'll keep you in my prayers and keep us posted to what you find out.

Oh Jennifer, Honey, I am so sorry for you having to go threw this! However, I hope you try to look at this as a blessing. At least you found out before anything really serious happened to you.
Sometimes getting ready for WLS we find out how seriously bad our health is and the Dr's' can help before it gets to the point of being life threatening.
I will keep you in my prayers and hope for the very best with your test. Please let us know  what is happening with you.

HUGS

Jennifer,

I am so sorry that you found out about these things today.  I have asthma and I had no problems with having surgery.  I don't know about leaky heart valves but I would imagine that it would be best to have this looked at and assessed.

Hang in the girl and I will thinking nothing but good thoughts and say prayers too.  Please keep us posted and know that we are here for you.

Hugs,

Barb

Hi Jen

Read your blog too. I can relate so much.
We moved from So. Cal for better State Job opportunities for my spouse. We were here 2 months when I got the call...get to New Jersey to see Mom.
The dam fool of intern inserted tainted port for the chemo & it killed her in 3 weeks. Granted, her co-morbitiies bough her to the cancer, and it would have taken her...just not so soon.

I swore I wouldn't to the same...she was 53.
Yet, here I am @ 47 and couldn't fit in the MRI for Breast exam ...they found what PTP thought was lumps.
Then I had to switch - I had moved from Rsvl to Grass Valley, and Blue Shield costs rising to which I couldn't afford to have the same PTP...Blue Shied charges near 30% more to have different IPA than my kids/husband - UCD. So, I had to switch to UCD.
UCD "specialist" said lumps were just fibrosis...basically gets hard tissue in boob just not the benefit of a boob lift..LOL...They refused to do the MRI that Mercy Med Group has started process for.
So, I said put me in for the RNY procedure so if I do have anything, it would be noticed w/o MRI.
My Mom's cancer had grown so much & attached to her spine before they did an open MRI and found it.
Her fool of medical group told her the same BS...just loose weight and the back pain will go away. They went so far as spinal tap...how'd they miss the MRI until 1 year later. She couldn't walk then they did the MRI...it was so progressed that only thing was the chemo port insertion.

There's not a day I don't cry.
Still, her life/dealth is what gives me the strengh today to undergo the RNY...I'm sure I can loose some, I just gain it all back within months and then some.
I must live long enough for my kids...my youngest is 9 and I can't image what heartache & fiscal stress I'd put the family through due to my failure to seek out any method to control my weight so I can extend my life.

Keep plugging & keep the faith.
By the way, with your Finance experience you might want to check out the CA State job process- their website is... www.spb.ca.gov

It's a bit long winded but it's worth it.
The Medical is second to the Federal system.
Also, near Citrus Heights, going westbound off I80 using the Watt exit is where the IRS building. You could check them out as well @ how to apply.

The good State jobs.  Oh..............  my husband with his good state job has lost 10% of his income.  I need to work OT to cover what the good state of california has taken away.  Sorry I just couldn;t help myself.  I woke in an icky mood teenagers you know.  I hope all goes well and they get the MRI.  You should insist that your med group find you an open MRI that can take you.

Sorry you got this kind of news.  I can tell you that my nephew at 7 was diagnosed with a leaking heart valve.  He lived his life for several years while being monitered.  He was in the school band up to his soph year.  Then they repaired his valve.  The little devil was in the hosp 2 days.  After 3 weeks he was in the desert on dirt bikes.  Now I know you are not a teenager, but this was said to let you know that technology today is so awesome that repairs are almost routine.  At 17 he is a normal teenager.  As for testing if I recall they did a dye contrast and cat scan.  They also did a stress test.  Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers

Sorry about your apt. I guess you just have to look at the postive side...or make up one! I understand I have MS and hate going to my neurologist and hearing bad news. Hang in there!
