Shutting down our Bariatric Program

Grrrrrrr.  I'm steaming mad.  I called today to the Nutritionist to schedule my appointment for my maintenance program.  I am within 25# of my goal weight and I'm doing what they tell me to do.

Turns out when our hospital here Shasta Regional Medical Center was taken over November 1st they cancelled all contracts with insurance companies.  Neither side will give and so I found out today that the Bariatric program here might just be cancelled.  This means nobody currently in the program and within the first year of surgery will get their follow-up appointments with the nutritionist.  Grrrrrrrr.  It will be announced on Friday if the program is a go or their folding it.

This program makes the hospital money.  Even more important is that it leaves some of us in the program already in limbo.

I told my nutritionist (she's really really good) that I would be willing to PAY OUT OF MY OWN POCKET for the follow up care.  I need to go in for my maintenance councelling as our post surgery and pre-maintenance diet is very very tough and restrictive.  It's one of the toughest programs.  3 meals a day, no snacking and you get 1000 calories a day, 10 grams of sugar, 20 grams of carbs and very little fat.

Lets keep our fingers crossed and our prayers going that they keep this program here.  I don't want to have to drive to Chico for all my follow-up care.  Grrrrr.

Off to go feed the old man.   Tonight is French Dip Sandwiches and a green salad with lots of veggies.

75 to 100 gm of protein a day.  And I always get on the high end.  I make sure most of my calories come from protein
