I am a Crown bari-patient also. (Dr. suh is a terrific surgeon!) No Pains from gas at all...NO pain meds needed..just some liquid tylenol.  I took the hard stuff just to ensure a good rest..lol
If you can get a belly binder, it would be wise.  I put mine on the moment I could stand (wear a tank top under it or put a pillowcase under front part..so it doesn't make your staples irritated)..makes moving around 200% easier..including walking...keeps your back straight.  It just stretches and fastens with velcro.
Post surgery nausea was bad...they finally found a treatment that worked..the easiest one...just a patch behind my ear!  It took 5 meds before they found something that worked..keep that in mind.
Don't worry about getting in the "foods" they bring..if you can...great..if not, be sure to atleast drink your juices and water.  Warm fluids feel better than cool or cold ones.  The chicken broth is not bad at all.
Remember to keep your travel bag light...you WILL NOT be able to life a heavy one.  Leave the hardbound novels at home and just bring 1 magazine and maybe some music.
They give you enough toiletries..but a mouth moisurizer or chapstick type product is a must!!!!
Definatly a soft cup bra one size too big, (I am very modest..lol)  NO UNDERWIRES..lol
Just remember..the first 24 hrs. will feel like HELL...then you will be able to tell another newer patient on the floor that "tomorrow you too will be fine"..lol
God speed in your surgery and a safe and speedy recovery

Thanks Kim!!!
Yeah, I think Dr. Suh is very nice too.  I have my last appointment with him this afternoon..then the next time I see him it will be in the hospital getting ready for surgery.......ohhhhh I'm getting nervous....hehehe

Where do you get a belly binder???  I've got to stop by CVS before I register at the hospital this afternoon so I'll look there.

I am worried about nausea, though.  I can't take more than one week off of school....I'm REALLY worrying about that.  I have a 2 hr commute (1 hr each way) so I know I'll be tired, but I won't be able to handle stilling in class with an upset stomach.  What medication (that patch) did you get that worked?  What's the name?  I'll bring that up with Dr. Suh when I see him this afternoon.  Also, I think I had a bad reaction to Morphine the last time I had it (I was sick to my stomach for three days) so I'll ask for something else.

Thanks again to everyone with all their suggestions, well wishes and just camaraderie!!!

I don't know the name of the patch..but it is a common treatment.  The nausea usually only lasts for some hours..mine was about 15  hours but some are only a few.  I've heard some are none!  Its partially due to the blood still in the pouch...needs to exit..lol  I could not take morphine..my drug for pain was Dilaudid..I had no trouble with it whatsoever..as I said..I used it to sleep, as there was virtually no pain..just stiffness and bloating.  I was alergic to the surgical tape..be sure to be aware if you are or are not.  I took liquid tylenol for the back pain. (ask Dr. for standing order while in hospital) common from laying down so long.  I never ever had a gas pain..I hope the same for you.  The belly binder can usually be found at medical supply stores...or you can order online and see if you can get rush delivary...have it intime for your trip home.  I had no nausea at home..never have...but apple juice was my lifesaver if my blood sugar dipped.  gotta go..Tai chi time!
Best wishes

Hey Melissa congratulations....Monday is your big day...WOOWOO!! I am a former Dr. Suh patient  and I am going on 7 years out! You do not need much in the hospital at all. I brought my tolietries and that was it really. I wore the same tent home that I wore to the hospital. I did bring a pillow...not so much for in the hospital, but for the ride home!

BTW....when you are up to it...I come up to Idyllwild (live down in the low desert) and would love to hook up with for coffee or something when I am tromping around up there. There are other things that us OH'ers do around the area...so keep on posting and congratulations again.

Hiya Janine!!!

Thanks for the congrats and the well wishes!  :O)  We moved from Idyllwild a few weeks ago (I was sad to go...but the economy is soooo bad) and we moved into my in-law's property in Aguanga.  But I'd love to get together with you for some coffee or something Idyllwild.  It's not that far away.  :O)

We live on a VERY bumpy dirt road so I'm worried about that drive home....  :O(  Does it hurt much to go over bumps after surgery???

I'll keep posting and let everyone know how surgery went!!  :O)
