Restaurant suggestions in Long Beach
I'm looking for restaurants in the Long Beach area. I'd like to avoid chain restaurants, greasy spoons, and places serving "glop".
I like many kinds of cuisine, but tend to prefer things that are creative and interesting and prepared with care. Any kind of interesting places that do nice salads or healthy (or organic) or a stuff would be nice. So would a tapas/appetizer kind of place that has small portions (with prices adjusted accordingly) or a "farm to table" kind of restaurant where they shop at farmer's markets. Also open to Asian cuisines (Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, etc), but again, prefer that they not be "gloppy" kinds of places.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have!

Open Sesame on 2nd Street, light middle eastern fare...love the chicken shwarma!
George's Greek Cafe on Pine and on 2nd Street as well...
There is a lot of Thai and other Asian food availble in LB, none I can think of off hand though.
Go to www.yelp.com and enter in Long Beach...you'll find tons of recommendations.

Thanks for the recs. I actually had checked out both yelp.com and citysearch.com and it was kind of hard to tell...I saw George's Greek Cafe on there but I wanted to see if some post-ops in the area had any suggestions. So I can now check out yelp with a little more confidence than I had compared to when I did it yesterday.
See you Sat,
Cindy

You could probably get bunches of other good ideas at the Long Beach coffeehouse tomorrow. We meet at Starbucks at Bellflower and Spring (Lowe's is there) at 10 AM.

Your message brought back so many memories for me. I was born and raised in Long Beach and my family owned a restraunt there. Right where the mall used to be. lol. So I could tell you Dean's cafe is the best but it is no longer there. I have not lived there since 1987 and just recently went back there and none of my favorite restraunts are still there. I used to Love French food and my favorite place on Broadway was gone that was the sadest, but I could not eat there anyways now. I am sure the suggestions these ladies gave you are going to be great as us surgery gals know our food. Good luck and send us your review of what ever place you choose.
