I posted this on the Wacky Wednesday Weigh-in, but I'm posting it on a separate post too hoping to get some more answers.  Help please.

"I'm down 1.5 pounds, which of course is good.  I'm still up a net total of 1.5 pounds from gaining 3 pounds over the previous two weeks.

I'm beginning to questions how I'm doing things and I hope someone can give me a little input.  I track my food on mydailyplate.com  It's a great tool.  Here's my problem though.  Lucy, my pouch, only allows me so much food at a time........which is how it's supposed to work.  The daily plate tells me I should be eating about 1,100 calories per day and by 7 pm at night I'm lucky to have taken in half that.  So I spend the evening grazing getting up to the amount of calories.  I always get more than enough protein in and I'm exercising but the scale is not making me happy these days.

Should I just forget about attempting to get in my daily calories and jus****ch the protein and do the Breakfast-Snack-Lunch-Snack-Dinner-Snack thing?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated."

How much protein are you getting each day?

My doctor's recommendation is 45 to 50 grams.  Generally I get anywhere between 50 and 80 grams per day.

Hi Janeene,

Here's my opinion - it may not be the right one, but...

I realize as newer post-ops, people are not hungry, but need to eat to get their protein in.  However, at one-year out - I wouldn't eat if I wasn't hungry, just to reach a specific calorie intake.  As long as you're getting your protein in, taking your vitamins, and eating healthy... I would go with it, and only eat when you're hungry - if that works for you.  The time comes soon enough when you will be hungry and/or want to eat, and have to work a lot harder at not eating.  So, I say go with it.  Though, keep in mind, not eating enough can sometime stall weight-loss, too.

Good luck,
- Patty

Thank you Patty, I really appreciate your opinion and that's just what I was thinking too.  I NEVER get hungry.

I used no sugar added apple juice to help me up my calories early on in my post op stages.  It seemed to work for me and helped me in the constipation as well.

This may not work for you, if you experience dumping easily.  I did not dump on NSA apple juice so maybe you should try it.  TREE TOP makes it, and I usually buy it at stater brothers.

I would mix 8 oz juice with 8oz water twice a day.  That equals to 240 calories.

Thank you for responding Connie.    I'll do well with no sugar added juices, so I'll keep that in mind.

Hi,
I'm three years out and can remember that for the first 18 months I didn't worry about the calories as long as I got my protein.  I agree with the other poster, enjoy this time when you are not hungry and don't try to force yourself to eat just to get to that 1100 mark.

I've had a 20# rebound weight gain and have gone back to basics with my goal to be the required amount of protein 60-80 grams for me as per doctors instructions and a maximum of 1200 calories.  I've been doing this for the past 8 days and am tracking on Fitday.com.  In the last 8 days I haven't hit the 1200 calorie mark, but do get all my protein in by the end of the day.  I'm happy to report that 5 of that 20 is now gone.  But it is a lot harder to do once you get past the "honeymoon" stage.

Again, this is my experience and you need to do what works for you.  IMHO it's better to get your protein, vitamins and water  than it is to reach a calorie count.

Good luck!

I am wondering if the Daily Plate is telling you 1,000 calories because that is a safe amount for the average person.  I will be 3 weeks out tomorrow and my surgeon has me at 500 calories per day until the I am 8 weeks out, then I move up to between 900-1000 and it is at that time I am supposed to track protein, but you know every surgeon is so different.  It wouldn't hurt to call their office to double check.
