Silly Question...

So I am in the early approval stage of WLS and I have Kaiser. My silly question that I probably already know the answer to is:

Do they let you choose your surgeon? Or at least the Hospital you can have it at?

I know that with Kaiser SoCal you can go to Inland Valley or to Pacific Bariatric (not sure if there is anywhere else you can go). I believe you would get to since you are the one that has to place your life in someone elses hands. I pretty much know who I want to go to or at least the hospital I want to use.

Just wondering.

Nathalie

Not knowing anything about Kaiser I really can't help you but it makes sense to me that you should be able to choice your surgeon, so long as they are in the Kaiser plan.

Unfortunately those are the only 2 choices get at this facility. There are pros and cons on both facilities so you will need to do your research and choose. I am very partial to Dr Suh and IVRMC. Dr Suh is truely caring to all his patients and the hospital now has a special bariatric ward designed just for us.

Scripps at the time I was at Kaiser did not have this available but at least your partner could stay in the room with you. Down side was they made you stay in a hotel across the street for a week for follow up. Again this may have changed over the past 2 years.

Good luck

You can also go to Dr Yadegar in Lancaster and UCLA.

Thanks everyone I was just worried that they would tell me which hospital that I had to go to. I would really like to make that choice. I have been reasearching a while and believe that I know where I want to go.

Thanks Again

Actually they will make you go to the specific hospital that your surgeon uses.  That is not a choice.

I went to the Harbor City facility and had a choice of 2 different doctors. One I heard some bad things about so I picked the other. I was not happy with his bedside manner but figured I needed his hands more than his personality. Boy was I not happy with him though.

I went to Pacific Bariatrics.  I really loved my surgeon.  I did not have to stay in a hotel for a week after my surgery.  I have never gone there again.  My follow up appts. are closer and I still see one  of the 3 surgeons.

Thanks for the info. I really want to go to Pacific Bariatric. Everyone I have talked to has said that it is really nice and the doctors are excellent.
