Hello all,
I cannot take the regular sized Metformin 1000mg.  They are just too big and cause gastric disress and we should not be taking Extended Release anything, so I stopped the MetXR.  I have asked for and been given Riomet, liquid Metformin.  Just wondering if anybody is taking it and if it helped with your weight loss?  I have severe metabolic disorder..always have for 33 yrs, along with PCOS...my weight loss is slower than anybody I've seen...36 pounds at 3 1/2 months out.  My diabetes is still full blown but under good control with meds and diet  (my HA1C is 5.7)...however I still need evening shot (Lantus 40 u.) and oral meds, (Actos)
Give me a heads up if this is your story too....
Happy Day!

Kim,

Good luck with the Riomet, Lantos, Actos, et al.

I was fortunate enough not to need the Metformin ER from the time I had surgery.   However, I did not have the metabolic disorder nor did I have PCOS.

I hope that you get to the point of not needing the 'scrips some time in the near future.

Hey Kim, I was still on all of my diabetes meds after surgery (I had stopped the 850mg Metformin prior to surgery). I was on Reg and N insulin for about 2 months post-op, then in Novemeber my PCP took me off the Actos. I am currently still on Glipizide, but hoping to get off of it soon. I have never heard of Riomet tho. Good luck with it. I hope your diabetes resolves soon. Don't compare your weightloss to anyone elses. Everyone is different. Sending love and hugs.

I wish I could help you Kim.  Before surgery I was on Lantus, Byetta, Metformin, Avandia, and Glyberide for my diabetes.  I was also diagnosed with PCOS about a year and a half ago.  The Metformin never bothered my pouch so I know I was very lucky.  After surgery I slowly went off everything except Metformin.

I kept taking that, slowly lowering the dosage and as of about two weeks ago, I'm no longer even on that.  Did you always take your Metformin with food?  That helped me.  Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

I am sooooo happy for you being off your diabetes meds...I look forward to that day too.
Yes, I always take the Met with food.  I am more concerned about my insulin resistance...I take the same dosage now as I did 35 pounds ago, but I did at one time take 75 u. Lantus at night PLUS  Novalog throughout the day.  I'd like to hear that continued weight loss..even slowly, relieves the IR...  thanks for your reply...

I had all of the above.  The pcos, the insulin resistant, and whole works.  I took my diabetic meds for about one month after surgery, had a weight loss of 35 lbs and then within the next two weeks after that, I was off all my diabetic meds.  Yes it does get rid of the problem, at least for me it has, and I have not had any problems since.  I take my sugar off and on now and find that I am within the normal limits.  ANY weight loss is good for us, so don't worry, it will get better!

Good luck, Hugs, Diane

It will get better Kim.  I came off my meds a little bit at a time and like I said, it was almost a year before I was off everything.  You're doing great!

Thank you Diane and Janeene...
it is good to hear some helpful facts from all of you who have "been there done that".  Since I can only go forward..thats how I am going to perceive things, just taking one day at a time.  It's so frustrating.
I am so glad I am 52 and not 22 and not needing to get to a certain weight in order to do something or go somewhere.  I lived that for 25 years it seems, and never did anything or went anywhere...ugh.  I did put off a trip to NY until I reach airplane "seat belt size" again..lol
How do you know when the need for the diabetic meds is coming to an end?  Did you get hypoglycemic??..did A1Cs get too low? Let me know what to look for..I don't see the surgeon until 2/19.  I'll bomb him with other questions then.
Thanks a million everybody who answered.
