Same here, we are not wedding people. I refuse to wear a white dress etc etc... we just want a small thing with us and a couple friends, then a party. Nothing big and fancy... just have fun! :)

Vegas is the most economical way to go... lol... I did it and it was cheap ha ha
CONGRATS!!!
I bought a book a couple years back, but it wasn't super helpful.
We saved a bunch of money having a friend act as the "minister." Los Angeles County will swear in someone for a one ceremony deal. The most difficult part was that he had to go down to a certain county clerk's office on a weekday to be sworn in. We made a day of it, got our license and went to lunch. You'll have to check their website for info. There was a fee that we paid, but it beat paying a professional $500 (minimum) for the ceremony.
I bought my dress on E-Bay for $150. I was the second bride that used it, but the first paid $800 for it. Look on E-Bay in late June/July/August. I had to have it cleaned and made some minor alterations, but I sold it for $100 after the ceremony. There are some websites that can tell you where to get a dress in LA for cheap.
We got our invites from Ashton Wedding Invitations dot com. I think I bought 50 invites. I bought some pretty postcard stock from paper direct dot com for response cards. I did those on my home printer.
Go to a Mexican bakery for a little, pretty cake for you to cut. Then get a same flavor sheet cake to share with everyone.
I bought a case of champagne at Costco. And plastic glasses for the toast. (We had the ceremony in a friend's back yard near the pool -- so no glass.) Buy flowers at Costco.
I do recommend getting someone to cater. We tried to do finger foods with family help and it didn't work out too well. You need someone who doesn't have to be in the pictures messing with food.
Get a good detail-oriented friend/relative to be your "wedding planner." I tried to do everything myself and I was still all wound up and anxious up until the day before our two-week honeymoon ended. Buy your friend a spa day or something similar to thank her.
And buy a bunch of disposable cameras for your guests to shoot. We got some really good pictures that way.
Good luck!
Patti
