Wii Fit Injury and A Lesson for Newbies like me

Ok, now I am really feeling old.  Best intentions on Saturday, did 35 minutes on my Wii Fit.  I felt great after I was finished, I even did boxing 3 times, I think it was the 3rd time that put me over the edge.  That is until 1:30 a.m. when I turned over in bed and couldn't move!

So yesterday morning, I got up and had my breakfast (cream of wheat) I missed my snack and had not yet begun to drink my water and the pain in my back was intense.  Well, like the big goof that I am, I made breakfast for Ron and thought ok, I will have scrambled eggs and a turkey sausage and I can have that as my lunch.  In the process, I remember I had some pain med (liquid Lortab) left over from the hospital and thought, that should help my back!  I even took a half a dose (1tbs).  About 10 minutes later I felt nauseated and the next thing I know, I was on the floor.... I fainted.  Can you say poor judgment????  I should have never taken that stuff on what would have been an empty stomach.

I went to the Dr. today and told him about the fainting episode and he said, yep that would have done it.  He also reminded me that I need to go slow even on the Wii Fit.  He said as we get older our muscles are subject to small tears when we over do it, and that I need to work up to it.
On the good news side, I have worked on my water intake and I will make 64 oz for the 1st time today and will even have 50 grm of protein in today.

I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!  I sure learned my lesson.  I need to have my snacks even though I am not hungry and I need to do my water and not over do the exercise, ease into it.

Thanks for listening

Always,
Barb

Barb,

I am glad you went to the doctor's today, but please take it easy.  You would hate to be laid up for a long time.  I know sometimes when we have the best intentions it is easy to over do things.

Take care of yourself....

Michele

Michele,

Thanks a bunch.  Yep, I'll stick to walking for now, that seems to be working well.

Hugs,

Barb I am glad to hear that you will be OK..............But boy I can relate to this.

A couple years ago I purchased a Bowflex Ultimate II home gym. I was doing great on that thing and one day I thought Hmmmm what if I increased the workout. They say 20 mins a day 3 times a week and man they mean it. I started doing it everyday and on the 5th day doing ab crunches I felt something rip in my stomach area and the intense pain was ACK....

Went to the doctor and they told me I tore a stomach muscle and to stay away from my Bowflex for at least 8 weeks LOL...........So I sold it

Hope you feel better soon and please take it slow and easy

Rick,

It's nice to know I'm not alone

As I told the Doc, I just was trying to get movin'!  I forget I am not as young as I used to be.

Thanks again,
Barb

LOL, you made me laff!!! When you said, I got hurt, so I sold the machine! HAHAHAHA, sounds like the rest of use doesnt it? You know, like the treadmill that has turned into a closet or the stationary bike collecting dust on my padio! LOL  But I am excited for you to have your surgery.

Ohhh no.........The treadmill isnt going anywhere. You know what they say, if you get thrown from your horse, you just get back on and start riding. Well that evil treadmill of mine threw me off and it wont win this battle. I will be back on it soon..............I hope

Barb,

It's really important to listen to what your body is telling you.

It will tell you when you aren't eating enough.  It will tell you when you are eating too much.

It will tell you when you have exercised enough and are about to go overboard.  It will even tell you when you haven't exercised enough.

The thing about exercise is that, as you do it, you improve and you develop the capacity for more strenuous exercise.  This should be a gradual improvement.  No matter how much fun it may be, it's important that you don't overdo it.  You can faint, you can get stress fractures, you can do a lot of physical damage.

Keep on exercising, it's good for you but keep track of how you feel, too.

I'm glad you are, basically, fine and I'm sorry you fainted.
