OT: UPDATE Psych Eval for Permanent Birth Control

Saw my therapist this morning and she said no one has ever asked her to do a psych evaluation for permanent birth control. Then I went to the gynecologist and the nurse practitioner didn't even bat an eyelash - she said if I wanted to schedule it, she'd take me to talk to the lady who does all that stuff for their office. She didn't question me, didn't say anything about me changing my mind in the future - nada. I love that place because it feels like a completely non-judgmental environment ... I truly appreciate the fact that they accepted and respected my choice and that was that.

So I'm scheduled to have the Essure procedure on April 15th. I'll have a pre-op appointment and meet with the gynecologist two weeks before, and a follow-up two weeks after. I'm so excited!

Lauren~

As a nurse, I have never heard of a psych eval for permanent birth control, so I am glad that it worked out for you.

I knew after baby #2 and years of struggling that I didn't want anymore kids.  I had my tubes tied.  Never waivered, never looked back.  My doctor asked me this question:  "if one of your children died, would you want to replace that child?"  My answer:  "You can't replace one child with another.  They are two entirely different human beings."  She scheduled the procedure on the same day as my C-section so that I didn't have to go back to the OR>

Congrats on advocating for what YOU need and not giving in to the needs of society or those around you.

Have a great day!!

While I don't agree with your decision, I do respect it and am glad it worked out well for you.  It's clear that you made a logical, well-thought determination.

Good luck with the procedure and any necessary follow-up.
