Hi Everyone!

I'm just wondering if anyone has been banded at UCI with Dr. Nguyen or Dr. Reavis. I have a surgery date of 2/25 for the band. I'd like to know how aggressive they are with fills and such.

Sorry, I had RNY with Dr. Reavis.  But when I originally consulted with him it was for a band.  At that time he said that his fills were determined entirely on his patients and how they were progressing, so it sounded like they would base the fills on your own motivation.  For example, he had one lady that was losing so fast she hadn't had a fill at all, simply knowing the band was there was enough for her.

I can not speak highly enough of Dr. Reavis and his entire support staff.  No matter what the procedure they are so knowledgable and supportive!  The aftercare has been fantastic!  I think you made a great choice going with UCI.

I had the lap band done in 2003. Dr. Nguyen is a great doctor. Let me tell you the doctor is not the problem the office is. Dr Nguyen boss. The office got approval for the wrong surgery. They used a genric billiing code. The approval they got from my ins was the RNY not the Lap band. I went in for my first fill and the ins denied the fill ( they would not pay for it). Then I asked the ins why if they paid for the surgery then why would they not pay for the fills. The ins said they never approve the lap band and ask for there money back. I was billed $50,000. I got a lawyer and the hospital agree to not charge me. I have had Dr. Nguyen's boss tell him if he treats me (keeps me as his patient) he would be fired. She not only did that but blocked me in the examing room and yelled at me, and provented me from leave by blocking the door. I got out by my husband forcing his way into the room and getting me out of there. For 5 yrs I did not have a fill. I lost the first 75lbs but gained it back plus some. I could not afford the fills at $400 each. Then the lap band port flipped upwords causing very bad pain that I still have today even after I had the RNY on 7/9/08. I now have to have an MRI to see why I have a lump on my rib from where the insision and the port was. Sorry Its long and I can't help much. Good luck with your surgery. Cathy
