post op odor.

i have a had few people close to me get roux en y. i notice at some point during the healing process, the first 90 days or so, they would have very bad breath.

is this common? can anything be done about it ? anyone know the cause ?
i am just looking to help a friend out.

It is a good think...this just means they are in ketosis....they are burning fat.  I've been told you can brush your tongue and try sf breath mints.

Hope this helps....but it is normal..

My GUESS would be that their bodies have gone into ketosis (sp) . . . because they are losing weight . . . and if that is the cause - I don't think you can really do anything about it.  However - I'm NO expert by any means . . . I've just heard of this.

OMG!!! Yes, that so so common. I was told it was because your body is burning fat. It will go away but in the mean time I always carried mints and brushed my teeth alot.

i am glad to know that it is a common thing. well, not really, but you know what i mean.  it is just good know that nothing is wrong with them.

i can't say that i am looking forward to it. well maybe if went and picked up some stock in Crest.....

the main thing i don't look  forward to is the hair loss. i have been growing my hair since i started the journey and after a few months post op i wanted to cut it off and donate it to "locks of love"  i already have a stockplie of Biotin. but i guess i will just have to wait and see.
