Kaiser Questions- Past attempts
Hey guys! Last night I received my pre bariatric packet. Now all I have to do is call for the orientation before the classes. I was wondering when you filled out your pre-packets what types of things did you use as past attempts. Are they looking for only things that you paid for like weigh****chers or jenny craig? Or can you use time where you bought OTC pills, powders, shakes? Or can you simply use the doctor told me I had to lose weight so I cut calories, sugars, carbs, and what not? I am stuck on this question and am trying to find all of the things I have done in the past. I did do weigh****chers but I did not pay for it. I did it with a couple friends and we shared books and were each other own support group. I did right down all of my weights, but would this count for them? Any suggestions or comments are well appreciated.
Thanks
Nathalie

List it all, baby, all of it!! That's what I did. But things were different then, and Kaiser has made alot of changes in just 3 years. I went to my PCP with my list, and he didn't even look at it. He set up my psych and nutritionist appts., they gave me the go ahead, so he sent in the e-ferral and I was approved in 3 days...it was unreal.
All the best to you!

That would be so great. My consult is on the 26th and I am so excited. I did ask and the lady who scheduled my consult told me it was about a 2 month wait to get into classes(which I am fine with) I just wanted a tenative timeline to plan for work stuff.

Use any and all attempts at your weight loss expereinces. There are a ton of self-help books that advocate anything from diets to excercise porograms that you may have tried and didn't even know it. South Beach is not only a book but a marketed eating program..as is Weigh****chers meals, Healthy Choice, Exercise for Dummies, The Noni program, marketed pills (shame on the manufacturers) T.O.P.S., daily food journals, Slim Fast drinks and meal replacement bars, Caggage or any kind of soup diets. What they want to see is that you are entering the program with determination and desire to achieve lifelong results and that you do not take your current weight situation lightly...but are serious about improving your health.
You'll do just fine...good luck!!

Thanks for the encouraging words. I will write everything down that I can think of. I was just worried and wanted to see what everyone else did. Thanks a ton for all of the help you have been.

Write EVERYTHING down. Go to Jenny Craig, WW and any place else you tried to lose weight and get a printout of your records...Gym membership? Get a record of it. Old Doc put you on a diet? Get a record of it. Prescription meds? Get a record of it.
Seriously- put EVERY last effort you made on this form...

I put down everything I did for more than a few days. This included stuff with no real names as they weren't organized programs. But I was "on a diet" pretty much constantly for a number of years and I didn't include those because most of them didn't last a week and were more lip service to the idea of dieting than real diets.
