Hello Everyone,

Just wondering is any of you have had Dr. Aileen Takahasi from Torrance Memorial as your RNY surgeon?

She's not my doctor but I do go to all the support groups at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, all of which are on Monday nights.  Since Dr. Perry is having a vocal cord medical issue, Dr. Takahashi and Dr. Baghai, along with Dr. Solomon and Dr. Klein, are taking over two out of three groups.  Send me a PM for more info.

Dr. Takahashi is a very competent surgeon and, while she is trying harder on the people skills, she can be a bit harsh.  She and Dr. Baghai worked extremely hard to get TMMC the Center of Excellence designation.  She is very thorough and the whole TMMC process is a lot more work and tougher to get through than many other medical groups, even the vetting process.  On the other hand, if she accepts you as a bona fide candidate for WLS, she will fight tooth and nail for you.

Personally, I much prefer my doctor but it's a matter of personal choice.

Dr. Takahashi was my surgeon!  She's fantastic.  I had no problems at all.  Excellent and extremely professional.  I did have RNY too.  She at first recommended lab band and when I told her my reasons for wanting RNY she listened, understood and agreed with it just fine.

I had a few problems with the administrative staff -- things like them getting ahold of my labs and turning in request for pre-surgery tests timely.  But I think they have changed some things and it seem to be much better.

After surgery I am followed by a Nurse Practitioner in her office.  Pat is really good and very nice!

I didn't have her for WLS but she fixed an internal hernia for me in the fall of '07. I liked her well enough. Better than my WLS.

I do want to warn you about how long it will take to be seen at that office. Even when there are only one or 2 other patients in the waiting room it will take well past your appointment time to be seen. You will be there hours. I just had my tt/hernia repair by Dr. Klein and have had lots of follow-up appts with the nurse practitioner. And the magazines are all old and boring so bring a book. I do have to say that once you are actually with the doctor or NP they will take their time with you and make sure all your questions are answered and that you are comfortable with the procedure. So the wait is worth it.
