I've rediscovered McDonalds...On my terms...

WARNING!!  Kids, do not try this at home!!  I'm starting to go back to McDonalds.  No, it's not like before WLS.  It's on my terms...let me explain.  Some of things I will get there...Coffee.  I'll get one of their regular coffees and sweeten it to my taste...mostly Splenda and Equal, with a little sugar and half and half.  I only drink about 4oz cause my pouch is a weakling...I will save the cup and reheat the rest the next day.  A cheeseburger...I will use a few napkins and blot out the grease.  I will then add my own spinach leaves and tomatoes.  I ususally will nibble on it for a couple of days.  A grilled chicken bacon ranch salad...I will take the salad and add my own spinach leaves, tomatoes, bell peppers, carrots, mushrooms, and some extra cheese.  No, the dressing and the bacon is not good...but when you add the other stuff it works for me...it usually last a few days too.  Those thinking about going this route really should wait till you're near your goal.  But for me...I'm enjoying these items.  Brian  PS Notice...no Big Macs, french fries, or soft drinks...

i used to go to mcdonalds or jack in the box, don't know which one it was, and get a hamburger deluxe. i always brought a container and a fork with me. i then emptied the pattie, tomatoe, and lettuce into the container and threw the bread away. i made myself a beef salad that way. i loved it. Or when i was on the road i'd stop and order a hamburger without the fatty mayonnaise or sugary ketchup and put mustard on it instead. Or i might get a 99 cent hamburger and just eat the beef patty, like it was a finger food, and throw the bread away.

it was fun being creative. Just had to be careful that i didn't try to convince myself that what i was doing was okay when, if in the long run, it wasn't.

I don't trust myself at McDonalds, I am like an alcoholic when it comes to MC D's.  One French Fry is too much and a million is not enough.  So for me I will stay away from there.  I also think that using a napkin to dap off the grease is too much for me.  I also can't do leftovers and  I am a hater of waste.  I don't like throw stuff away.  I am not judging you so please don't think I am.  I guess I think it is too much work for me and I would never take food of my own into another restraunt, you see I went to charm school and that was on the no no list.  so no can do.  lol  I am Lazy so I will stay at home and make it the way that works for me.  I can't even begin to tell you how much money I have saved since we don't go out to Fast Food anymore.  And I don't have to throw away all those stupid toys my kids get from the happy meals (I have 9 children).  I am a great cook and since surgery I have really been experimenting with new and different stuff so I have a new passion.  Good luck too you and I am glad that you can go back to McDonalds.  For me it would be like being a sober alcholic hanging out in a Bar.  TOOOOOOOOOOO risky for me, but I am not as strong as some.  Have a good day and Give Ronald a big hug for me next time you see him.

i think you are smart to know where your triggers are or your weak spots. not everyone has the same trigger points.

there is a time when i would have felt that way too but i learned how to navigate my way around in such places.

Rhonda...You've made some really good points.  I get these things to go and put my salad togeather and dab the grease off at home...a little privicy while I do my quirky things.  Concerning what you are saying about a bar...I am there in other ways.  I can't do buffets anymore.  They were my downfall.  This other one may step on some toes...I don't want to do a cruise.  Knowing there is free food whenever I want it...A midnight ice cream bar!!  My wife feels the same way.  Yes, I know there are a ton of fun things to do...It's just I know myself...Can't go there post op.  Brian

You know I worked a Mickey D's many moons ago as a manager. I used to get allot of people ordering just a burger no role, or mcchicken no roll. But I am not sure if I can walk in to a McDonald's after surgery and not take a shot at some fries. We will have to see a year or two down the road.

Thanks for the insight though
