Hi!

In order for me to have the MGB, I need to have a supporting doctor in LA.

Can anyone how has had the MGB let me know what doctor they had?

Thanks!

Casper.

Casper, I know this doesn't address the question you have asked, but the MGB is not a good operation and I hope you will have an open mind about doing further research into the wls options before making a decision. This operation is similar to the very first gastric bypasses that are now outdated and much improved. Because there is no roux limb, but instead a simple loop of small bowel attached to the pouch, there can be severe problems with bile gastritis and bile esophagitis. These problems are not treatable with antacids or any of the many meds available for reflux because the bile is not acidic. This means the best (only) effective treatment for this problem is further surgery.

The MGB is not endorsed by the NIH, the AMSBS, or any other organization of the bariatric surgery professional community. There are only a couple docs in the USA who do it. It is, in short, a bad operation.
There are several much better options available to you. I chose the DS and have had excellent results. The rny gastric bypass is the most commonly performed wls in this country, it was not my choice but would certainly be safer than what you have planned. Lap band is widely available (I'm not impressed with it myself, but again, better than mgb by a long shot). VSG as a stand alone is still considered investigational but is being more commonly done. Lots of choices!
So step back, read on all the various forums here on OH for the different operations, and please make a different decision. There is a reason mgb isn't endorsed by anyone other than the doc who does it.

Hi Larra!

I have been reading up on it. And I have found very few people that are not happy with the MGB. But ofcourse I'm not deadset on having the MGB, but it seems like the RNY is much more invasive. And the band seems like it has a very high failure rate.

But if you say that the DS is good then I will look into that as well, How much weight did you have to loose?

Thanks!

Casper.

How far out are those people? Everyone loves their WLS at first because they are losing weight.

The MGB not only is dangerous, but most people don't sustain their weight loss. I don't know any reputable docs who do it.

Casper if you haven't researched ALL your options you should be doing that before anything else !!  Once you have researched all and made a decison then its off to find a dr that offers all and a consult with him/her
