Here is what happened..

SO as all of you know, I was supposed to go to my follow up appointment with Dr. Vierra yesterday.

UNFORTUNATELY.....

My baby woke up not being able to breathe. He had the sniffles the day before, and went from sniffles to waking up not breathing well.

I tried to give him his inhalers, and do his breathing treatments, but to no avail. Nothing I did was working. So I called his PCP and he didn't have any openings till later that day... I wasn't waiting any longer and told them how much he was struggling, so they told me to take him in..

I picked up the school age kids as it was an early out day and headed for the ER, armed with drinks, snacks, and games to keep the older kids busy.

Upon arrival at the hospital, they took Evan right back given the severity of his breathing. His heart rate was over 200 and his O2 levels were upper in the low 90's and occasionally dipping into the high 80's..

They started giving him back to back treatments that were not very successful at first, so they  did a chest x-ray and found that he has bronchitis on top of that, so they gave him Rx anti inflammatory.

He started breathing better but his heart rate would NOT come down, so they admitted him  and we stayed in observation.  It was a battle all night to get his heart rate and breathing under control, and the 5 kids and I stayed overnight with him as the DH had to work.

It was such a sight to see, we got lots of attention.. LOL I guess they never get families that big that often..

They gave us a roll-away cot that Joey, Annie, and Ian shared, then Chloe shared the hospital bed with Evan, and I sat in a chair all night.. (No sleep for me) Man am I sore today.

Any who, they continued the treatments through the night and he started responding and doing much better by this morning.

DH came to the hospital at 6:30am to pick up the school kids, took them home, fed them, and got them ready for school. The baby and I stayed for a few more treatments.

Evan got to eat not ONE but TWO breakfast's.. Mine and his. LOL he was in HOG HEAVEN.  (Not to mention the Nurses waiting on him all night last night.. Popsicles at 3am, jello cause he was hungry, apple juice, milk.... man he got the treatment. and LOVED it)

Shortly after that, and one treatment later, we were able to go home with strict instructions to keep up with the treatments and if there is ONE sign of trouble, take him back in.

SO that being said,  unfortunately I was NOT able to attend MY APPOINTMENT, but will go for my follow-up next Wed..

Sorry to have  worried some of you, I was just really tired today, and tried to sleep when I could..
Thanks for your concern, love, prayers, thoughts, etc..

Hugs,
Jenn

So what the hell? You trying to scare me half to death? I am kidding but it does scare me the thought of my "little booger" being sick!! How is he doing now? I suffered with allergies, asthma, and bronchitis and have had moments the last few days but I think I have grown out of it for the most part...that and I stopped smoking almost 5 years ago...made a huge difference. So what did they tell you to do to prevent this from happening again? Are the putting him on any extra meds? There are so many new ones out there that are sooo good.
Let me know what is going on, please.
Give my "boy" a hug and kiss for me.

HUGS

Oh, Jenn, I can relate with your little boy having the breathing problems.  My oldest son had bronchitis/asthma/ whatever problems for his first ten years or so.  Sometimes it was really scary stuff!

I am glad that the family made it through.  Just think, your kids will now have a memory to share when they grow up and have kids of their own.  "I remember the time when we all had to stay in the hospital because Evan was sick."  I am sure the kids will think of it as a cool memory.

Get some rest and take it easy on your back.  BTW, a huge congrats to you for something you didn't mention.  What is it?  You didn't turn to food during the stressful night!!  WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!

Huge hugs to you!!

Jillie

Jillie,

Oh I am sorry you and more importantly your son had to go through that too.. It is hard as a mother to sit and watch your baby struggling to breathe and knowing there is nothing more you can do but wait for the medicine to help do it's job. I hope he is much better now, and I pray that my Evan too grows out of this soon. Yes VERY scary stuff..

I too think that one day they will look back on last night and laugh and joke, but for now, they HATED it. Who can blame them.. I know that is not how I wanted to spend my time when I was a child, but such is life, and we understand more when we get older.. (most the time anyways.. hehehehe)

I took a nap earlier, so I am up now, but am going to go lay down in a few and rest up for tomorrow.

OH and THANK YOU for bringing to my attention the fact that I didn't turn to food during this crisis.  WOW, how could that have slipped my mind.  I was a very good girl, and even remembered to pack my vitamins and take them while I was there.  *pats herself on the back*

I hope you have a great upcoming weekend, and thanks again for your support.

Hugs and love to you,
Jenn

Hey Jenn
wow,  I have been in your shoes..many many years ago with my youngest. He had a severe asthma attack when he was 7 or 8, scared me to death!  Watching my usually active, rowdy young man fade before my eyes was unreal...and then watch him come back like a droopy flower getting its strength back..was the most wonderful feeling ever!  I know you worry about your son...but don't forget to take care of yourself!  You can't help him if you forget to take of you..Moms are Wonder Woman..but still human :-)  Your all in my prayers..keep us informed!

I made sure to take care of myself through all of this.. Took my vitamins with me and everything..  Thank you for thinking of me.

It is very scary to watch your child fade before your eyes, but I am glad that he is doing better.

Thank you so much for all your prayers.  He is doing good today.. A little trouble last night with an extra treatment, but doing great..

Have a great weekend,
Jenn
