Decided not to drink

Kirsten,

I was born in Santa Rosa, NM and raised in Vaughn, NM.  Vaughn is b/t Albuquerque and Roswell.  My mom lives there still and my dad lives in Clovis, NM.  Vaughn is a railroad, welfare town and maybe there are about 500 people there now, not sure.  While in HS there was approximately 1200 people, my graduating class was 10.  I often tell my kids that I graduated in the top 10 of my class,  LOL

The school is K - 12 and there was only 1 graduate this year.  Football is a 7 man team.

Needless to say, my family on both sides is quite large so having a boyfriend growing up there was tough.  My boyfriends had to be from another town down the way as I was related to everyone in my little town.

This little town has nothing but a park w/ a set of swings, teeter totter, basketball court, slide, & merry go round.  Closest biggest city is Santa Rosa 40 miles away.  If you needed to buy something at the local "Peoples Store" and had no $$ you just sign the back of the receipt and come back on payday to pay your bill.   This store had everything from meat, bread, jeans, oil, sewing notions, etc..  They even had the candy display cases with the glass in front and you bought by the scoop.  As for paying your bill with your signature on the back, no questions asked, no credit check, no ID,  last time you farted etc.    LOL  There is however a "Blueberry Hill" and it is right by my moms house.  When I go there to visit I have no need to carry cash for traveling.  I can go to the local Allsups, or gas station and write a check out for cash or flip out a credit card and they don't even ask for my ID (because they know me).  Who in the world travels to another state, city, or country for that matter and an ID is required for everything.

Demi Moore went to school in Roswell and played basketball for them.  I probably played against her but she was a nobody then.

I only go back every 4-5 years or family emergencies.  My husband and kids hate it there and I just love the fresh air, night stars w/ a dark sky, no smog, no homeless, no beggars, in my little town.  However, there is plenty of drugs, alcohol, thieves.  I am hoping to go in February.

In a nutshell, this sums up just about everything where I am from.

Are you from NM or have family there?

Have a good evening, stay dry and warm

My mom moved to Chama NM a few years ago.  I thought Chama was small, but nothing compared to what you're describing.  It is beautiful there.....but too quiet after a week or so.

Alyzbzee I'm glad you had a great time, and without alcohol! Kudos for you!! I used to drink pretty heavily and let me tell ya... no easy task to stop or make that choice to NOT blend in.

Diane: I know where you're comin from about that PJ thing - I used to just wear a tank and undies...I've not had surgery yet but I've lost about 100 lbs and I'm sitting here in 2 pairs of socks, a sweater AND a hoodie and flannel bottoms...-_-  I never knew the meaning of "cold" and it's only gonna get worse for me haha!! Bring on the cold baby :P I'll get cute sweaters in a size medium later on xD

Congrats on stopping the alcohol.  You should never feel that you do not blend in just because you don't drink.  I never do.  It is a choice we make in our lives.  Besides, it is hysterical to sit back, be sober and watch everyone make asses of themselves.

Also, congrats on the 100 lb. loss without surgery.   Do you have a surgery date yet?  Please keep us posted here on the board with your progress as you move along in the program.

I love the cold weather, but now i'm not just cold, i'm freezing.  I need to bundle up like you.  I just hope my toes can breathe in 2 pairs of socks. LOL   Funny thing is I am not a closterphobic (sp?) person, but I can't wear socks to bed (my toes can't breathe), acrylic nails do not stay on very long (my nails can't breathe).  I think maybe I should just get me some flannels.  I wore them as a kid / teenager how much different can they be now right?

Welcome to the boards, by the way.

Annette

Nope, no date yet, I'm waiting for a call to schedule the consult. I've been through the whole process before(up to approval) with the same insurance so I know how it goes and how to get things done faster. I couldn't afford vitamins last time so I opted out.. now I'll be okay financially so I'm going for it!!  I'll definitly keep everyone posted!

I am thrilled you had a good time and happy you didn't take the chance of drinking in that situation and possibly getting sick.

This all doesn't mean you can never have a ****tail Annette.  It means, check it out at home before you go out.  Once you know your limit, you can easily go out and have a drink or two in social situations.  But remember, alcohol is empty calories.

In any event.  Good job and now I bet you can't wait for the next event you can go to and have a good time.
