Hi Jaime. I gave up soda because of my gastric bypass. People with gastric bypass have the risk of expanding their stomach with carbonated drinks. Here is an experiment-open a bottle of coke or diet coke and put a balloon on it and shake it. The balloon will expand and that is basically what the soda does to the new pouch/stomach. Also the carbonation can cause discomfort in the form of gas bubbles and/or belching.
Now to be real, I have had a taste of my hubby's soda on a couple of occassions. Why? Probably because it is there. How do I feel afterward? Like I need to be burped like a baby and I can feel the bubbles in my tummy, which I don't like.
Best of luck to you. You are doing great and congrats on your upcoming new arrival.
Hugs
Terry

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!
We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they
ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

I completely gave up diet soda (I never drank the sugar stuff past 14 or so). I used to drink all the diet coke varieties, but I wasn't addicted and didn't drink it daily. In fact, diet cola irritated my tummy and I had IBS symtoms from it so I figure post surgery, it would be even worse.
Even though I get a craving for it on a hot day, I just don't want to drink it for fear I'll get cravings and have to fight those off along with all the cravings I still get for things like cake and muffins.
I use some of the sugar free Torani syrups from Cost Plus to make interesting sugar free drinks. I add the chocolate syrup to some of my protein shakes and other flavors to my decaf coffee with low fat milk. I almost feel like I am a normal person!
Take Care!
