Any Calis who are pregnant?
That happens quite a bit with RNY patients due to the malabsorption, we absorb some of the hormones but not enough for it to be fully effective. At least I'm guessing you were taking the bc pill? After you have the baby you will be a candidate for the Mirena IUD if you're interested. I love mine and it's good for 5 years. Since it's inserted into the uterus & the hormones are localized to that area released from the IUD there's no worry about not absorbing enough through the intestinal tract.
As for your pregnancy you should be ok. Definitely up your vitamin levels to 2x prenatal vitamins (I took the One Source brand, small pills, easy to swallow & the doses of vitamins were okay'ed by both my surgeon & OB/GYN), a super B complex, sublingual B12 & 1500mg calcium citrate daily. Also increase your food intake to 3 meals & 3 snacks (basically eat something every 2-3 hrs to not only get in the calories for baby but also to help keep your blood sugar levels stable). I know a lady on an other website that did that when she got pregnant at 3 months post op RNY and she had a healthy full term (overdue actually) baby. When it comes time to do your gestational diabetes testing tell them that you cannot do the standard GTT because that drink has like 50-75g sugar! See if they will allow you to do a fasting glucose, eat a regular meal and then do another glucose test (called a 1 hour post prandial).
Good luck & I hope you have a great pregnancy. Feel free to ask more questions if you need.
