Thank you so much Barb and Michele, that means a lot to me! I am going to try to make it, the John Muir Support Group is also on Saturday so I'm hoping to do both :)

Topic: Denied!
Hey all. I've been around the boards for a while, but I haven't been posting much the last couple of years. Mostly I wanted to soak up what the losers on the bench have to teach, and partly because I didn't really have much news beyond "still struggling with the weight.." Last month, I got everything together and with the help of a lovely doctor here in Maastricht, Netherlands (I'm on a study abroad program), requested authorization for RNY from my health insurance through my university.
Today, they called to say they denied me because I am on study abroad for my final year & did not show a need for urgency for the procedure. They don't claim it's not medically necessary, but deny me, saying I should just wait until I "get home." I won't actually be "going home" as it's my senior year and I plan to attend grad school in Europe.

Ah well. I could try to fight it, but I'm not sure how to fight this kind of denial. Instead, I'm reading up on a clinical trial in the area for a new procedure (restrictive only, no malabsorbative properties). I'm not giving up! I'm just being flexible. Especially if it could be free! =D

Could use your support and/or advise, especially if anyone else has come across this "it's not urgent enough" business before.

Thanks!

Topic: John Muir
Okay so it took me a while but i have finally switched my medical to John Muir. I went tonight to a surgery overview and all i can say is WOW, the lady that was running the class was extremely nice and totally took her time going over everything not to mention she allowed us to ask as many questions as we wanted and made sure that we really understood what was going on before we left. I am really looking forward to this journey it really seems to me that she does care and i'm hoping that everyone else that I will have to see at John Muir are the same way because I am really excited that I have switched. I am hoping that after going thru with all of the steps that I will need to go thru I will be able to have my surgery during spring break if not earlier...I'm not going to rush things but I'm totally looking forward to it. I really need to gain my life back and get healthier so that one day my husband and I can have children when I am at a healthy enough weight to carry them. Please wish me luck and if anyone has any experiences at JOhn Muir please let me know :) Thank you all :)

Awesome! I hope to be there next monday. I have my Psych Evaluation & Case Manager Appt. Tuesday at 8am in Richmond, so I may go down there early and miss the meeting and start up the following week. Fingers crossed I get my date Tuesday too :)  Is there a lot of people that attend the S.Sac meeting?
